David Stephenson, formerly of Sauk Centre, took over as manager at the Falls Pamida store on Monday.

Members of the Sutherland rink took second in the Class C Curling championships this week. Members of the rink are Oscar Sutherland, Bobby Peterson, Jim Bartkowski and Rory Krantz.

The Ladies Home League of the Salvation Army met today in the Citadel. The candlelight ceremony was conducted for new members, the Mmes. Doris Anderson, Ruby Hughes, Ella Peterson and Linda Stevenson.

Truman Sturdevant, formerly of the Boise Cascade engineering staff at Portland, Ore., has been named to the newly-created position of converting manager for the Falls paper mill.

Sherry Austin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Austin, Van Lynn Road, is a patient in the Virginia Municipal Hospital where she submitted to knee surgery.

50 YEARS AGO

Mrs. LeRoy Crandall, Clark’s Colony, was hostess recently at a birthday party in honor of her daughters, Sherren, 10, and Shelleen, 9 years. Five guests were present.

A post nuptial shower was given last Friday night to honor Mrs. Ronald Pelland, the former Wanda Brekke, at the home of Mrs. LeRoy Lundquist.

Falls Junior High School Ninth Grade “B” Honor Roll — Susan Abendroth, Mickey Arnold, Beverly Breeton, Larry Brouillard, Patricia Coran, Anthony Curran.

Patty Jo Rountree will represent St. Thomas School in the Minneapolis Tribune Spelling Contest tomorrow in Minneapolis.

60 YEARS AGO

Pvt. Frederick F. Foyt, 18, South International Falls, is completing his Air Force basic indoctrination course at Lackland Air Force Base.

Mr. and Mrs. Harold Barstad of Littlefork have moved to the house vacated by the W. Davis family in South International Falls. The Davis family has returned to their farm near Littlefork after spending the winter in South Falls.

Friends of Delores Kolshus, Falls High School senior, have entered her photograph in the Lulu Fisk contest running in the “Smorky” comic strip in the Minneapolis Morning Tribune. The contest is to show that mid-western girls are just as pretty as Hollywood glamour girls.

70 YEARS AGO

Mrs. James Curran was guest of honor at a birthday party given by 16 friends at the J.A. McDonald home, 903 Sixth St.

Mrs. Graydon Hardy, Liberty Addition, was hostess to 30 friends and neighbors honoring Mrs. John McGivney. Mrs. McGivney and her husband, pioneer residents here, will leave Friday for St. James, New Brunswick, to make their home.

Irene Simon, 6-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Simon of Holler, was released from Northern Minnesota Hospital last night after receiving treatment for a leg fracture. The little girl fell from her bike as she was enroute to school.

William Reff, who has been employed at Erickson’s Hardware for the past five years, has enlisted in the Naval Reserve as a Third Class petty officer and will leave this week for his training station.
