Marine Pfc. Eric T. Owens, son of Eugene T. and Dixie M. Owens of International Falls, recently completed the motor vehicle operator course.

As of Tuesday, the Falls wood-sheathing plant, International Bildrite, has hired 26 workers, and 25 are from the immediate area, according to Falls Mayor Jack Murray.

A girl was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. James Lessard.

A 73-year-old South International Falls resident — holder of a Red Cross Medal for long and distinguished service to the organization — will help to keep the program of the organization going in the Borderland area. M.F. (Mike) Mattson, who served as county safety and first aid chairman, recently told the Rev. Vergil Anderson, chapter chairman here, and Vern Reuter, co-chairman for first aid and safety, that he would do all he can to help keep the program alive.

Miss Melody Ann Bartlett and David Allen Crossgrove announce their engagement and forthcoming marriage. Miss Bartlett, daughter of Mrs. Lily Bartlett of Island View Route, is presently a senior at Falls High School.

A son was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Milette, 1123 Eighth St., weight, 8 pounds, 8 ounces.

Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Reimer of Big Falls announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Phyllis Marie, to Robert Klein, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jasper Klein, 1419 First Ave. E., the Falls.

Robert Gaines, USN, was recently promoted from the grade of hospitalman to petty officer, third class.

70 YEARS AGO

Harry Kimpton received word this morning that his son, Pvt. Harold Kimpton, has been assigned to Camp Robinson, Little Rock, Ark.

Bernard Raymond Anderson, 18, of 1101 Ninth Ave., has been promoted to private first class in the Marine Corps and is now stationed at the marine barracks at the navy yard in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

Mr. and Mrs. George Nord (Dorothy Decker), 305 Eighth St., announce the birth of a daughter at the Laurion Maternity Home. The little girl, who will be named Bonnie Dolores, has three great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Decker, 609 Sixth St., and Mrs. Leonard Nord Sr. who resides on the West Coast. All four grandparents are living.

Arnold Anderson left Sunday evening for San Diego, Calif., where he has been assigned as a ship-fitter with the U.S. Naval Reserves. He was formerly employed as a welder in the paper mill here.
