Jennifer Hamalainen, daughter of Leslie and Patricia Hamalainen, is a recipient of the Elizabeth J. Larimore and Sadie P. Mathews scholarship to attend the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks for the 1987-88 academic year.

Marine Pfc. Keith A. Bergh, son of Richard A. and Barbara Bergh of International Falls, recently reported for duty with 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton, Calif.

Dr. and Mrs. Peter A. Glennie left Monday for their home in Tucson, Ariz. They were here for a 10-day visit at the home of their parents, the Peter M. Glennie and the Stanley Ewings. 

A boy was born at Falls Memorial Hospital today to Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Larson.

Mrs. Keith Kleppe and daughter, Shelley Rae, 6 weeks old, were honored at a baby shower in the home of Mrs. Ronald Wright, sister of Mrs. Kleppe.

 

50 YEARS AGO

Members of the Wesleyan Service Guild of the Methodist Church gathered for a lawn party at the home of Mrs. Leonard Loveland on Saturday afternoon. The party was given in honor of Mrs. Per Westvik who is leaving for a temporary visit to Norway.

Secretary of Agriculture Orville L. Freeman and Mrs. Freeman are vacationing in Borderland and fishing for walleye this week. Their guide is Bob Misner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Misner, who operate Misner’s Turtle Lake Camp at which the Freemans are spending part of their Rainy Lake vacation.

Phyllis Ann Rosendahl and Gene Marlan Friend were married at Mission Covenant Church recently.

A girl was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Dale Edgerly, 7 pounds, 3 ounces.

 

60 YEARS AGO

Mrs. Jack Hedlund, Jameson Addition, was guest of honor at a stork shower at the home of Mrs. William L’Heureaux, Forest Inn Apartments.

A daughter was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. George Counter, South International Falls, weight, 7 pounds, 11 ounces. Name chosen, Audrey Anne.

Miss Catherine Dorr, of St. Paul, formerly of the Falls, has written friends here that she is enjoying a three-month tour of Europe. Miss Dorr was society editor at The Journal several years ago.

Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Bergstedt, who were married last month in Minneapolis, will make their home in the Falls. Bergstedt is the new basketball coach at Falls High School.

 

70 YEARS AGO

Corp. W.F. Gray left for Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., after spending a week’s furlough here visiting Mrs. Gray, and other relatives. He was a guest at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Zicker, 512 Ninth St.

Mrs. Joe Perrault and Mrs. Julia Coleman were hostesses at a party at the summer home of Mr. and Mrs. H.C. Remer of Waterloo, Iowa. Guests were former employees of Mr. Remer, and friends.

Dave Servis, Nels Gustafson, Howard Severson and Bob Arthurs, who received training at the Bolton Welding School, have accepted positions at a shipyard in Superior, Wis.

Seaman Harold Howe left Saturday for Great Lakes after spending his furlough at his home in Jameson Addition.
