A baby shower in honor of Vicky Jo Bass, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Bass of South International Falls, was conducted recently at the Mae Kittelson home in Ericsburg.

Richard Bringedahl, instructor of physics and computer science at Rainy River Community College, was among 23 participants in a laser workshop offered by Bemidji State University.

 

40 YEARS AGO

Mr. and Mrs. Martin Steinbach, Route 7, will be honored at an open house Aug. 20 from 1 to 8 p.m. in their home on the occasion of their 25th wedding anniversary.

While attending the Canadian Professional Hockey School at Gimli, Manitoba, Gary Sampson was the winner of the Victoriaville Summer Hockey Camp Contest. The instructors voted Gary as being the student best able to combine hockey ability and sportsmanship as well as maintain a good mental attitude towards the game, his instructors and fellow students.

PFC. Duane Frahm spent a 21-day furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Frahm at 501 Ninth St., before leaving Wednesday for Germany.

 

50 YEARS AGO

Army Pvt. Richard A. Frank, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Frank, Route 2, Littlefork, recently completed eight weeks of advanced individual training as a cannoneer at The Field Artillery Training center, Fort Sill, Okla.

Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Sater, Loman, announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Patricia Ann, to Eugene Larson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Larson of Papermakers Colony.

Richard Fox, meteorologist in charge of the Falls weather station for the past 20 years, will retire tomorrow.

Mrs. Elsa Thomasson, 1207 Sixth St., was guest of honor at a surprise supper birthday party in her home. The oval-shaped floral-decorated cake was a gift from Mrs. William Frank and the Thomasson children.

 

60 YEARS AGO

Judy Ann Anderson, 4 months, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur J. Anderson, 400 10th St., was christened last Sunday during morning worship services at Zion Lutheran Church with the Rev. R.O. Evans officiating.

A son was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Roger Julien, 510 Sixth St., 8 pounds, 14 ounces.

A daughter was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Hanson, 517 10th Ave. Weight, 7 pounds, 12 ounces.

The body of Cpl. Walter C. Vedaa of Indus, who was killed in action in Korea on June 19, will arrive here Saturday by train from Oakland, Calif. Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at the Indus School with the Rev. Alfred Vote in charge.

 

70 YEARS AGO

Mrs. Oscar Sontag and son, Robert, were released from Northern Minnesota Hospital today and returned to their home, 516 Fifth Ave.

Roy Bergstedt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hugo Bergstedt, arrived from Newfoundland where he has been employed on a government defense project.

Miss Agatha Lindner, head librarian at the public library for the last four years, has submitted her resignation here to accept a position as librarian of the state library division of the Minnesota Department of Education, St. Paul.

Mrs. “Bud” Johnson left this morning for Morris to join her husband, who is a state highway patrolman stationed at that point. The couple will reside at Morris.
