Airman James A. Holbrook, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph W. Holbrook of South International Falls, has graduated from the U.S. Air Force missile control communications system course at Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas.

Thomas J. Qualey recently enlisted in the United States Navy for guaranteed training at the Navy’s Fire Control Technician School.

Girls’ physical education instructor at Falls Senior High School will be Verlle C. Surface, a graduate of Bemidji State College, 1972.

A boy was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Larry Reese.

Friends will hold open house at the home of Mrs. A.T. Armstrong, Littlefork, on Friday honoring her on her 80th birthday anniversary.

Melvin H. (Jim) Camp, a border city resident since 1927, retired recently as head trimmerman in Insulite after 22 1/2 years with Mando.

A boy was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Carlson, 7 pounds, 5 1/2 ounces.

Mr. and Mrs. Oliver J. Dandeneau, 1117 Scott St., Fort Frances, announce the engagement of their daughter, Marie Claire, to Donald Jay Dunbar, Loman Route.

A daughter was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. John Klotz, 9 pounds, 3 ounces.

Members of a beginners’ swimmers class who took examinations Wednesday are Carol Price, Katherine Browman, Karen Mapes, Karla Skrumeda, Carol Kalar and Jeannette Bauer.

A party Sunday at the Jess Hall home, South International Falls, was in celebration of the birthday anniversaries of two of their children, Ardell and Shirley, and their son-in-law, John Blankman.

 

70 YEARS AGO

John Henry Little, believed to have been the oldest resident of Koochiching County, died this afternoon — peacefully in his sleep — at the age of 101 years.

Mr. and Mrs. John Abley (Betty Ratelle), Eighth Street, are parents of a son born at the Littlefork Hospital today. John Lee are the names chosen for the child.

An International Falls business and civic leader, Ray Proctor, will leave today for Escanaba, Mich., to fill a bigger job and seek greater advancement. Mr. Proctor, manager of the Gamble Associated store here since 1934, has been transferred to the company’s bigger establishment in the Michigan city.

Mrs. Joe Turenne, who suffered a broken arm last evening, is a patient in the Northern Minnesota Hospital.
