25 YEARS AGO

We, Albin and Edith Nelson, request the pleasure of your company at an open house in honor of our 50th wedding anniversary on Aug. 9 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Littlefork Lutheran Church.

There were cousins by the dozens at the Anderson family reunion conducted recently at the Bill and Karen Anderson residence near Loman. About 100 relatives representing six states, Canada and points in Minnesota, attended the two-day event.

Mrs. Eugene McLinn was appointed the county’s planning and zoning officer.

Mr. and Mrs. Everett Eklund, 1004 11th St., announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Dorothy Ann, to Gary John Coran, son of Mr. and Mrs. Nello Coran, 611 Sixth Ave.

Mrs. Louis Zieske, Ray North Road, recently completed a course in cosmetology at the Virginia Beauty School. She will soon be taking her state board exams in Minneapolis.

Mr. and Mrs. Norman Brekke, Rogers Route, announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Linda, to John Braaten, son of Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Braaten, Loman Route.

 

50 YEARS AGO

Pvt. Ronald Barby, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Barby, Island View Route, spent his furlough at the home of his parents after completing his basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.

Wade Himes is now home from the University of Minnesota for his summer vacation.

Delores Lyon entertained 16 of her friends on the occasion of her seventh birthday at the home of Buster and Petra LaPlante, the Green Shingle.

John Polkinghorne, 8-year-old-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Polkinghorne, submitted to a tonsillectomy in the Littlefork Municipal Hospital.

 

60 YEARS AGO

A daughter was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Raleigh Leitzau, weight, 7 pounds, 2 ounces.

Joe Taschuk, 816 12th St., a reserve captain with the Marine Corps, is in Camp Pendleton.

Mrs. Addy Watt entertained a group of children recently in honor of her daughter, Eunice, on her sixth birthday.

Mrs. Vayne Lord and children, Dick, Sharon, Janet and Tom, of Jackfish Bay, Island View Route, were honored last week by neighbors and friends. They left Saturday for Lake Charles, La., to join Lieut. Lord who is stationed there with the Air Force.

 

70 YEARS AGO

Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Sontag, 516 Fifth Ave., are parents of a son born today at the Northern Minnesota Hospital. He is the Sontag’s third son.

Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Braaten, of French Addition, are parents of a daughter born at their home today.

Fred Beyers recently purchased the Dr. J.F. Peterson home at 1021 Fifth St. The Beyers expect to move about Sept. 1.

Roland Judd left the past week for Minneapolis to join the naval flying corps.
