Twenty-year-old Steve Hanson won the 53rd annual Club Championship golf tournament at the Falls Country Club Sunday. Hanson won the tourney with a score of 36 — four shots per hole on nine holes.

A boy was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Lee Crandall.

A girl was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Grover.

Mr. and Mrs. Leon Breneman will be honored at an Open House Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. on the occasion of their 50th Wedding Anniversary. The event will be held at 1411 13th St.

 

50 YEARS AGO

Mrs. Ross Murray, 909 Sixth St., and Mrs. Al Johnson, 821 Seventh Ave., departed by TransAir from Fort Frances this afternoon for Sitka, Alaska, where they will join their husbands who have been there since June.

Mrs. James Rasmussen and family of Littlefork spent Wednesday in the Falls as guests at the home of Mrs. Rasmussen’s aunt, Mrs. Fred Rasmussen, Baker’s Acre. A noon luncheon was served in honor of Neil Rasmussen’s birthday. The children left on the evening train for Littlefork and were met by their mother and Mrs. Fred Rasmussen. The family then enjoyed a birthday supper in Littlefork.

Midget League baseball winners are Curt Tessier, Bob Douglas, Bill Howard, Ron Beck, Stewart Milette, Dan Blais, Steve Ross, Duane Earnest and Tim Sheehy.

Members of the Elks team, winners of the B softball title, are Russell Johnson, Ed Zurick, Paul Reuter Jr., Francis Robbie, Joe Taschuk, Alex Pleimling, Rube Julien, Rudy Frederickson, Hugh Spehar and Pete Biondich.

Yvette Silvers, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Silvers, South International Falls, recently celebrated her first birthday.

Teenagers and other volunteer helpers are rushing last-minute work at the Juke Box, teenage recreation center at 503 Third St., and preparing to open its doors Monday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Clauson and Mrs. Ray B. Sullivan will share the managerial responsibilities until a regular supervisor can be employed.

Mrs. Robert Christianson was guest of honor at a stork shower at the home of her sister, Mrs. John Napper, 612 Sixth Ave.

 

70 YEARS AGO

Norman Selsaas, who will leave Sept. 3 for army service, was tendered a farewell banquet at the Dutch Room Grill Saturday evening by members of the electricians union.

Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Hausman (Eleanor Bruneau), 901 Ninth St., announce the birth of a son today at the Laurion Maternity Home. James Doran are the names chosen for the child.

Twins, a boy and a girl, were born today at the Laurion Maternity Home to Pvt. and Mrs. Rudolph (Jiggs) Anderson (Irene Kennedy), City Hotel.

Miss Josephine Harris is now employed at St. John’s Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio, as a nurse’s aide.
