Roy Johnson has been named Grand Marshall for this year’s Ranier Founders’ Days parade on Sept. 5.

Katherine Friendt, a 1983 graduate of Falls Senior High School, recently completed training in the medical assistant program at the Southern California College of Medical and Dental Careers.

 

40 YEARS AGO

A boy was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Lehtinen.

E.J. “Ed” Chilgren, 75, former state legislator from this area and former publisher of The Littlefork Times, died shortly before noon today in the Littlefork Hospital.

Lance Cpl. Philip Williams of the 9th Transport Company in the 3rd Marine Division left last Saturday for San Diego, Calif. He spent a 30-day leave in the International Falls area after serving in Okinawa for a year.

 

50 YEARS AGO

Bantam League baseball champions are Jim Crow, Leonard Norgart, Dean Blais, Bruce LeDuc, Reed Toninato, Tim Cullen, Bruce Cousineau, Ron Douglas, Terry Cullen, Tom Urban, Tommy Thompson, Gary Lucachick and Gerald Ginter.

This year’s women’s golfing champion is Lyne DePaul. Runner-up is June Crotty.

A daughter was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Bounds, 1108 Sixth St., weight, 5 pounds, 10 ounces. Name chosen, Anna Marie.

Mrs. Orval Hartje, 1015 Seventh St., was honored at a farewell party at the Martin Molstre home, 917 Riverside Drive. Mrs. Hartje and children, Deborah and Cynthia, will leave Friday for Zapata, Texas, where Mr. Hartje has been stationed since July with the Border Patrol.

Duane Oveson, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Oveson, Island View Route, left for Green Bay, Wis., to enlist in the Coast Guard.

Miss Stephanie Nagurski, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Nagurski, 400 Eighth St., recently was named director of Winnetka Secretarial School, located in a Chicago suburb.

 

70 YEARS AGO

Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Hams of Ray announce the birth of a son today at the Laurion Maternity Home.

Richard Titus, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Titus, is a patient in the Northern Minnesota Hospital following an appendectomy Tuesday. He had passed his physical examination at Fort Snelling and planned to report to the army for active duty.

Howard Taylor of Goldville Addition underwent an appendectomy at the Northern Minnesota Hospital.

Mr. and Mrs. C.H. Christensen of Ranier announce the engagement of their daughter, Doris Evelyn, to Pvt. John Sop of San Antonio, Texas, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Sop of Orr.
