Edward Ek, a citizen of the border city since the turn of the century, died Sunday at the age of 95.

U.S. Air Force Captain Gary L. Gilchrist, son of Mr. and Mrs. Oliver L. Gilchrist of 130 Hiway Lane, has received the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service while engaged in military operations against Viet Cong forces.

An open house will be held for Mr. and Mrs. James Rasmussen in observance of their 25th wedding anniversary on Aug. 13 from 2 until 5 p.m. at their home in Littlefork.

 

50 YEARS AGO

A girl was born yesterday at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Norman Boyum, 6 pounds, 8 1/4 ounces.

A girl was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lundquist, 6 pounds, 3 3/4 ounces.

Jim Amidon, Falls High School senior, won the border golf championship in a field of 49 Falls and Fort golfers in the annual battle of the Fairways here Sunday.

John Benedix, son of Mrs. Alice Benedix, 319 14th St. W., graduated Aug. 3 from an 18-month course in mechanical drafting.

A daughter was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Christensen, Loman Route, weight, 7 pounds, 1 ounce. Name chosen, Julie Ann.

A son was born yesterday at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Fred Lessard, Ranier, weight, 7 pounds, 1 ounce.

A son was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Russell Nelson, South International Falls, weight, 7 pounds, 14 ounces.

A son was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Marcus Jackson, Loman Route, weight, 6 pounds, 11 ounces.

 

70 YEARS AGO

A daughter was born yesterday to Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Samuelson (Edna Johnson), Blackstone Apartments, at the Laurion Maternity Home. Sharon Lee are the names chosen for the child.

Mr. and Mrs. Franz Jevne are parents of a son born in Minneapolis. It is their first child.

At a quiet ceremony this morning at 7 o’clock at St. Thomas Church Miss Margaret McMillan, daughter of Mrs. Mary McMillan of this city, became the bride of Jack Navins of Hibbing.

Mr. and Mrs. Keith Stokes (Arlene Easterly), 1006 Sixth St., announce the birth of a  daughter at the Laurion Maternity Home today. She will be named Patricia Elizabeth.
