Lillie Dibble, a resident of the Northome Nursing Home, celebrated her 93rd birthday Aug. 3 at the home. Mrs. Hugo Olson of International Falls, sister of Lillie, was a guest at the party.

Mark Wold, son of the Rev. and Mrs. George Wold of Evangelical Covenant Church, has been named an Outstanding Young Man, it was announced by Doug Blankenship, chairman of the board of advisors for the national awards publication.

Army Private John E. Gerlach, 19, son of Mrs. Vivian Gerlach, 918 10th St., recently completed eight weeks of basic training at the U.S. Army Training Center, Armor, Fort Knox, Kent.

Pat Roche, 29, originally from International Falls, has joined the Virginia law firm of O’Leary, Trenti, Berger and Carey, Ltd.

 

50 YEARS AGO

A girl was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Evereth Brenning.

Robert D. Cousineau, fireman apprentice, USN, son of  Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Cousineau of Route 7, returned to San Diego, Calif., recently aboard the aircraft carrier USS Bennington, following her six-month deployment with the Seventh Fleet in the Western Pacific.

The Falls Red Coats were awarded first prize during the variety show Sunday night at Backus Auditorium. They are Ron Vukelich, Bill Pollard, John Sullivan, Ron Leen and Dave Lucca.

The Nash family reunion was held at the City Beach Sunday. There were 69 in attendance.

 

60 YEARS AGO

Mr. and Mrs. F.E. Krantz, 1112 11th  Ave., observed their golden wedding anniversary at their home Sunday. Present for the occasion were their sons, Frank, who resides with them, and Glenn, and family of 714 Fifth Ave.

Robert Misner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Misner, 1204 Second Ave. E., was honored by 14 boys at a birthday party at his home. Robert was 10. 

Mrs. Gordon N. Fisher, South International Falls, was honored guest at a stork shower at the home of Mrs. LaVern Batdorf, South International Falls.

A daughter was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. John Napper, 612 Sixth Ave., weight, 7 pounds, 14 ounces.

 

70 YEARS AGO

Mr. and Mrs. Victor Begg and sons, Harry and Richard, departed for Burns, Ore., where they will make their home. Mr. Begg is employed there.

Mrs. Louis Warmuth, who will leave soon for Longview, Wash., to make her home, was guest of honor at a surprise farewell party at the home of her mother, Mrs. Florence Dumais.

City police today detained a 12-year-old boy for violation of the new International Falls curfew ordinance. The offender, said to live in Liberty Addition, was taken into custody at 1:30 a.m. after he was caught roaming the downtown district for no apparent reason and unaccompanied by an adult.

Mr. and Mrs. Donald Gerlach (Edith Nelson) of Ericsburg announce the birth of a son Aug. 7 at the Littlefork Hospital. Mrs. Gerlach is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Nelson of this city. Donald is the name chosen for the child.
