Airman 1st Class Scott A. Weum, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford S. Weum of 1108 10th St., has graduated from the U.S. Air Force aerospace ground equipment mechanic course at Chanute Air Force Base, Ill.

Carolyn Jaksa, a graduate of Falls High School, was awarded an associate in arts degree from Rochester Community College at the conclusion of summer quarter.

Miss Peggy Lucachick, of Armstrong Ford, Inc., has just completed a dealership accounting-methods and procedures course conducted by Ford’s Chicago Marketing Institute in Minneapolis.

Mrs. Mike Rud and daughter Rachel were honored at a pink and blue shower at the home of Mrs. Chester Sumner in South International Falls.

Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Anderson of Red Wing visited here last week and enjoyed a potluck dinner at the Wallace Clement home in French Addition.

Cadet Paul W. Hansen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter E. Hansen of Ray, is currently participating in an Air Force Reserve Officer’s Training Corps summer encampment at Fairchild Air Force Base, Wash.

Accordionist Bob Kyrluk won second place in the variety show at Backus Auditorium Sunday night.

The appointment of Ralph Henry Moore, Duluth, as chief of police of the Falls was announced at the regular council meeting by Mayor Robert Bennett.

Mr. and Mrs. Myron (Red) Plummer of Effie were guests honored by the Mando woodlands department at a 7 o’clock dinner Friday at Rainy Lake Lodge. The occasion marked the retirement of Plummer from the department.

A daughter was born at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Little, weight, 8 pounds, 15 ounces.

Peggy Lee Effertz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Orman Effertz, 1010 10th St., was honored by 16 guests at a lawn party Saturday afternoon at her home. Peggy was 3 years old.

A3/C Philip L. Strand, 19, is spending a two-week leave with his mother, Mrs. Bernice Strand, Highway 53.

 

70 YEARS AGO

Mr. and Mrs. G. Selsaas, 505 Sixth St., entertained the Robert Wynne family at a dinner party. Guest of honor was Robert Wynne Jr., who is home on leave from the U.S. Navy. Covers were laid for 12 guests.

Max Goulet, fifth hand on M & O paper machine No. 2, left the company employ and started off for a job in Idaho. Somehow Max ended up in Spokane with another job.

Although Mrs. Elbert Parsley (Florence Wirt) of Nashville, Tenn., was not here, she was honored at a post-nuptial shower at Char-Bro Cottage in Papermakers Colony, the home of Mrs. Ed Broholm, last evening.

The Rev. and Mrs. Olaf Palm and son arrived here from Brook Park. Mr. Palm has accepted a call to the First Baptist Church.
