A public hearing on the proposed closure of the Falls Junior High School has been scheduled for Jan. 11 at 7 p.m. in the board room at the school.

Winners in the Koochiching Sportsmen’s Association’s Big Bucks contest are David Frank, George Balaski, Rick Sandstrom and Dave Bzdok.

Mr. and Mrs. Larry Van Schoiack of Riverside Park announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Harmony, to PFC Larry Lennox, son of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Lennox of Jameson Addition.

Friday David Palm brought his dad, Abner Palm, who is a resident of the Falls Nursing Home, out to visit with his brother and nephew, Mr. and Mrs. Simon Palm and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Palm, Loman.

Thanksgiving Day guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Boyum were Mrs. Minnie Sutherland, Diane and Keith and Mrs. Vivian Boyum and Patti and George Boyum.

50 YEARS AGO

Randall J. Anderson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Rudy Fredrickson, 1016 Ninth St., and a senior at St. John’s University, Collegeville, this week received two special awards given to juniors and seniors of outstanding military ability.

At the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hultman, Jameson Addition, Miss Mary Ellen Hultman, became the bride of David Lewis Jackson on Nov. 24.

The Walls brothers, Don, Jack, Dick, Bill and Bob, make up the entire Gambles bowling team which is a participant in the Major League.

International Falls has added a city engineer to its staff and as an added bonus has secured in the form of Albert F. Cousins, another booster for the lake country whose favorite hobbies include fishing and hunting.

60 YEARS AGO

A daughter was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. James Nichols, weight, 6 pounds, 3 ounces. Name chosen, Nancy Marie.

Grace Laird is elected honored queen of Bethel 14, International Order of Jobs Daughters. Others named to office were Margaret MacDonald, senior princess; Ancy Tone, junior princess; Kay Robinson, guide; and Pamela Morse, marshal.

Pfc. Clyde Shepard, U.S. Marine Corps, has completed his training at Camp Pendleton, Calif., and is spending a furlough with his parents in South International Falls.

Mr. and Mrs. A.C. Hoppert were Thanksgiving Day dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Holmberg, 905 Fifth St. Weather conditions canceled a trip out of town for the holiday the Hopperts had planned.

Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Tessier, French Addition, are parents of a son born today at the Laurion Maternity Home.

Mrs. Paul Jurisich, 233 Second St., announces the engagement of her daughter, Florence Katherine Klow, to Private William A. Ficke, Camp Cooke, Calif., a resident here for several years.

Miss Edith Engelson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Engel Engelson, and Mrs. E.T. Johnson left for Detroit. Mrs. Johnson will visit her daughter, Adeline, who is employed in Detroit, and Miss Engelson will seek employment.

Barney Jensen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Jensen, who has been receiving medical attention in Rochester for the last six weeks, is reported improved.
