Scott Gorden’s 35 points in the Broncos’ win over Hibbing last week has stirred interest in just which player holds the high school record for points in a single game. After checking through pages of old papers it appears that Dick LaPage holds the record with 42 points. He did it on Jan. 27, 1951, in an 82-60 win over Coleraine.

Richmond Floral has added a solarium, which Karen Wichner feels will give the shop more quality room to carry additional merchandise.

40 YEARS AGO

A new arrival in Ray is Troy Sidney Dahl born to Mr. and Mrs. Warren Dahl Dec. 16 at Falls Memorial Hospital. He weighed 7 pounds, 9 ounces and is the Dahl’s first child. The Dahls recently moved to the Harley Woods farm north of Ray.

Donating their tonsorial talents for the 15th consecutive year, local barbers Ron Langton, Jack Clarity, Les Langton, Otto Clarity, Andy Anderson, Lloyd Walhaug and Don Chowan provided free haircuts for residents of the Falls Nursing Home.

Lucia Stepoway, a resident of Falls Nursing Home, celebrated her 89th birthday recently. To mark the event, Mrs. Mike Bocnuk brought a decorated cake to the home for Mrs. Stepoway to share with the other residents at suppertime.

50 YEARS AGO

A girl was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ittner, 1208 Seventh St., 6 pounds, 2 3/4 ounces.

A girl was born yesterday at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Krzoska, 6 pounds, 11 1/2 ounces.

Ardath Helen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Orson Sharpe, celebrated her ninth birthday Saturday afternoon at her home, 111 Park Ave. Ardath and her 11 guests spent the time playing games and doing the twist.

Anthony Demuth, 7-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Demuth, 1014 Sixth St., is at home and doing fine after spending 13 days as a patient at St. Mary’s Hospital, Duluth.

60 YEARS AGO

Twin sons were born to Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Thompson, 300 Seventh St., this morning at Falls Memorial Hospital. One of the babies, weighing 4 pounds, 7 ounces, was born at 8:39 a.m. and the other, weighing 4 pounds, 5 ounces, was born at 8:49 a.m.

Mrs. Morris Stark, 1111 11th Ave., is improving at Falls Memorial Hospital where she has been confined for medical care since an attack of strep throat three weeks ago.

About 50 relatives gathered at the Loman School Saturday evening to help Mr. and Mrs. Norman Mellum celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary.

Mrs. Donald Roy, 713 Ninth St., entertained other women employees of the Mando logging department at a Christmas party in her home. Guests included Mrs. Cy Kirvan, Mrs. Gerald Mongrain, Miss Carol Grandaw and Miss Barbara Ryan.

70 YEARS AGO

There will be a shortage of Ewald Turkeys over the Christmas holidays, according to Lester Ewald, proprietor of Ewald’s Turkey Farm. “Our turkeys got off to a late start because of the wet spring,” he said, “and that, together with a high demand, has made it necessary to refuse any more orders.”

Floyd Norman Clark, who will be inducted in the Army this week, was guest of honor at a farewell party at his home, Ninth Avenue. Hostesses for the evening were Mrs. Perry Clark, Mrs. Adolph Eichberg and Mrs. William Walls.

Miss Lillian Crabtree, a student at Concordia College at Moorhead, has been chosen a member of the college concert choir.

Leaving Friday morning for Fort Snelling are December draftees Franz Stone, William A. Zimmerman, David Adee, James Newman and Merle Mack.
