Alan Douglas Verrill, 19, son of Douglas Verrill, Falls Senior High English teacher, succumbed this morning at Falls Memorial Hospital where he had been admitted last night about midnight. He had been in ill health for a number of years.

Retirement came recently for Mandonians Gus L. Browman, John Steingas and Fred McBride.
60 YEARS AGO
A son was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Carl Pieper, 718 Eighth St., weight, 7 pounds, 5 ounces.
The Log Cabin Inn, International Falls landmark and showplace for more than 40 years, closed its doors this week. Fred Munkholm, proprietor, said he had no definite plans about re-opening the 3.2 dispensing establishment. The Log Cabin was built by the late O.J. Masters in 1910. Today its imitation log walls are covered with hundreds of odd species of fish and game animals.
Mrs. Earl Bolin, Loman Route, was honored guest at a stork shower at the home of Mrs. John Saumier, Old Highway 11. Mrs. Pat Roche and Mrs. Chester Everett were assisting hostesses.
A Christmas party for the 22 members of the Chicago Cafe staff is planned tonight at the home of Maude Revell, 609 Eighth St. Mrs. Revell, Miss Kay Vanuk, Miss Cora Broger, Mrs. Jennie Moran and Sarah Golla are in charge of arrangements.
Pfc. Milton Kochaniuk, a paratrooper with the 11th Airborne division, received his discharge from the Army Nov. 28 and is enjoying a reunion with friends in the Falls.

Elaine Nelson entertained 10 girls at a Christmas party at the home of her aunt, Mrs. Ralph Nelson, 1003 10th St. Refreshments were served by candlelight by Elaine’s mother, Mrs. Harold Nelson and Mrs. Ralph Nelson.
Helen Thydean, Mando main office stenographer, overslept and consequently left home in a big hurry. She grabbed a package thinking it was her lunch. Imagine Helen’s chagrin, when at 12 o’clock she opened her lunch and found a dozen eggs.
Mrs. John Lyman (Rosetta Teal) and her daughter, Lynne, left Friday for Edmonton, Alberta, to join Mr. Lyman who has been employed there for the last four months. Before they left Mrs. Lyman’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Marland Teal, Birch Point, entertained at a Christmas family dinner.
A huge Christmas wreath and tall white lighted tapers held in seven-branch candelabra formed the background in the Withrow home for the wedding of Mary Elizabeth, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. M.E. Withrow, to Ensign Howard E. Davidson, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. David Davidson of Minneapolis.
