Lynn Robert Schwankl, son of C.H. and Hermoine Schwankl, received a doctor of chiropractic degree from Northwestern College of Chiropractic in commencement ceremonies at the college Dec. 19.

Rainy River State Junior College has been forced by declining enrollment to cut 6.5 faculty positions — five full-time professional faculty members and several part-time faculty filling the equivalent of 1.5 full-time positions.

Seaman Recruit Randy Grinsell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas J. Grinsell, 1612 Ninth Ave., is at his parental home to spend the holiday season with his family and friends.

Joanne Finstad from Minneapolis arrived on Saturday to spend Christmas with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Finstad, Ranier, and her sister, Connie.

Mrs. Ella Blumer, 711 1/2 Fifth St., had as her Christmas guests her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Allan Blumer, St. Paul, grandchildren, Cathy, Mary Beth and Mike, and her son, Glen, Colorado Springs.

Mr. and Mrs. Bob Poster, Oaklawn, Ill., arrived in the border area Friday to spend the holidays with relatives and friends.

Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Glennie, Island View Route, drove to Minneapolis last week to meet their son, Airman 1-c and Mrs. Robert Glennie and daughter, Sharon Ann, Sunneyvale, Calif. This is the wife’s first visit to the border area. Glennie is on a month’s leave.

Airman 1/c Gretchen Tatting, who has been stationed at Syracuse, N.Y., for special training in the intelligence branch of the Air Force, and Miss Betty Jean Tatting, who is employed as research assistant in the University of Utah department of medicine at Salt Lake City, arrived home Sunday to spend Christmas with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. A.O. Tatting, 808 Sixth St.

Jean Bluhm, 9, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Bluhm, 821 Ninth St., was honored at a birthday party yesterday at her home. Mrs. Bluhm entertained 16 little girls at a supper party.

Mr. and Mrs. Bernie Schulz, 516 Fifth St., entertained employees of Schulz Baking Company at a Christmas party at their home Saturday evening.

A family potluck dinner was served to 29 persons recently during a Christmas party at the Theodore Averill home, Cemetery Road. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. Dave Servis and family, Mr. and Mrs. A.D. McEldowney, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Averill, and Mr. and Mrs. Fred McEldowney and family. Entertainment included violin solos by Ellen Servis and Darlene Averill and carols sung by the group.

Western Union reports a survey made Tuesday indicates that telegraph users all over the country are accepting in good nature the government’s war ban on Christmas greeting telegrams which took effect Dec. 22.

Miss Helen Marie Reidy, who is a student at the school of nursing of St. Joseph’s Hospital, St. Paul, arrived home this week to spend the holidays. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Reidy.

Tony Kuhn, MD&W carpenter, is at home recuperating from a 30-day siege of flu.

Mr. and Mrs. L.P. Blomholm, 507 Sixth St., entertained at a buffet Sunday evening at their home complimenting Naval Air Cadet John Norton who is home on furlough.
