It was billed as the bruisers vs. the skaters, and this time, the skaters prevailed. Led by two goals from senior wing Cory Lindvall and some clutch goaltending from rookie goalie Joe Casareto, the Broncos opened their season with a 3-2 win over Grand Rapids.

Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Davis and family of Littlefork moved back to South International Falls for the winter. Davis is employed in the mill.
Scott W. Erickson, of Orr, president of Rex Hotel Company, today announced the appointment of Fred Scoggin as manager of Rex Hotel.
The youngest member of the December naturalization class was 7-year-old Lawrence Flovick. Lawrence, a former Canadian, was one of 15 granted citizenship in a hearing before Judge Hadler Monday afternoon.
Mrs. Shirley Roche was honored at a dinner party at Twin Elms in Ranier by fellow employees in the county welfare office. Mrs. Roche is leaving next week for Stillwater to join her son Bruce.

Mr. and Mrs. Gust Stavseth, Jameson Addition, have received word that their son, Pvt. Oscar Stavseth, has arrived “safely” somewhere in Alaska.
Peter Magnussen Jr. left for Minneapolis where he enlisted in the Merchant Marines. He will receive training in New York.
P.F.C. Tim McDevitt arrived from Camp Cooke, Calif., to spend his furlough with his mother, Mrs. James McDevitt and other relatives
William E. Sullivan, United States Navy, has been promoted to captain and is stationed with the fleet at Pearl Harbor.
