By a 3 to 2 vote Tuesday, the county board of commissioners rescinded a previous motion appointing Paul Barstad as county assessor and moved to re-appoint Alfred Johnson as assessor for the coming year.

Pvt. Larry A. Jean, whose mother, Mrs. Esther Jean, lives in South International Falls, currently is undergoing advanced individual armor training in Company B of the 1st Training Brigade’s 3rd Battalion, at the U.S. Army Training Center, Armor, Fort Knox, Kent.
New members of the Papermakers Colony 4-H Club are Sherry Darval, Leslee and Roberta Lucca.
The city council recently approved the temporary appointment of Gordon Piekarski as poundmaster on the same part-time basis as his father, Henry, who is ill. Gordon will fill the post until the senior Piekarski is able to return to work.

Penny Arney, daughter of Mrs. Mable Arney, 1113 Sixth St., entertained 14 friends Sunday on the occasion of her 12th birthday.
Renewing on-sale and off-sale liquor licenses were the Ritz, operated by Donald and Wallace Burbas; the Flame, owned by Elmer Rostie; and the Holler Liquor Store, Iver Everson, proprietor. Kelly Liquor Store, owned by Pat Kelly, received a new off-sale permit.
Funeral services for Benjamin J. Thiele, 65, former head of the Insulite shipping department, have been set for 2 p.m. Friday at Bethlehem Congregational Church.
Airman, first class, John F. Sullivan arrived here today for a 30-day leave with his mother, Mrs. Betty Prozinski, Airport Road.

Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hewitt, 507 Ninth St., announce the birth of a son today at the Northern Minnesota Hospital.
Girls Scouts of Troop 9 and their leaders were entertained at a 6 o’clock dinner at the Frank Bartkowski home, 905 Ninth St. Hostesses were Mrs. Bartkowski and her daughter, Betty, and Mrs. Merrill Deneen and daughter, Naomi.
Mrs. Stanley Cann, 710 Sixth St., and her son, John Daniel, were released from the Littlefork Hospital yesterday and returned to their home.
Among 33 Northwestern University football players receiving letters for the 1942 season at the recent football dinner was Warren Karlstad of International Falls, varsity tackle.
