Andrea Sue Batdorf was the first baby born in International Falls this year. The 7-pound, 1-ounce girl was born today.

Nancy Wilson, daughter of Jack and Karen Wilson, received a doctor of chiropractic degree from Northwestern College of Chiropractic in commencement ceremonies at the college recently.

Second Lieutenant William M. Dyrstad, son of Mr. and Mrs. Melford Dyrstad, of 1011 Ninth St., has graduated from the T-38 pilot instructor course at Randolph Air Force Base, Texas.

Falls Mayor Robert “Bob” Bennett retired from Boise Cascade’s Insulite division Jan. 1 after 45 years with the firm.

Job’s Daughters, Bethel 14, held the installation of new officers Sunday evening in the Masonic Temple. The three top officers are: Amy Armstrong, honored queen; Kathi Henrickson, senior princess; and Peggy Kirk, junior princess.

A boy was born yesterday at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Glen Boyum, 4 pounds, 13 ounces. He is the first baby of the new year.

Mr. and Mrs. Chester Genzel and Skippy, Ace Apartments, spent the New Year’s holiday in Alexandria as guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph DeBilzen, former residents of the Falls.

A girl was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Morrison.

Joseph Tracy, 17, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Tracy and a senior at Falls High school, is the 1963 winner of the Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science Award.

60 YEARS AGO

The nine sons of William Walls, Border Hotel, the Falls, were all home for the holidays this year for the first time in five years.

H.H. LaBelle, Daily Journal advertising manager, was released from Falls Memorial Hospital where he had been under treatment for a knee infection since Christmas Day.

Terry Lee Rinne, 8, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eino Rinne, 711 1/2 Fifth St., has been a patient at Falls Memorial Hospital since Saturday. He is being treated for a throat infection.

Mrs. Lloyd Metzger of Grand Rapids will begin her teaching duties next week, Superintendent Leo H. Dominick, has announced. Mrs. Metzger will take over the kindergarten class of Mrs. Ove Pederson, who resigned.

70 YEARS AGO

Mrs. A. W. Lindvall, 621 1/2 Sixth St., who is celebrating her birthday today, was happy to receive a cablegram conveying birthday greetings from her son, Pvt. Chester E. Lindvall, “somewhere in Australia.”

A son, James Frederick, was born today at Laurion’s to Mr. and Mrs. George Polkinghorne (Martha Brandt), 1016 10th St.

Today at the Northern Minnesota Hospital, a daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Nelson, Harlow’s Cabins. She has been named Yvonne Harriet.

The only New Year’s baby reported to date in International Falls was a daughter born to Mr. and Mrs. C.O. Morehouse at the Laurion Maternity Home Jan. 1. The child, named Hollis Rita, arrived at 6:20 a.m.
