School District 361 board members took what board chairman Art Przybilla termed “historic action” Wednesday, deciding to move school programs from Falls Junior High School, drop the district’s clockworks program and transfer eighth grade students to Falls High School.

John Patterson was among the students at Vermilion Community College in Ely who achieved superior academic achievement during the 1987 fall quarter.

The engagement and forthcoming marriage of Carol Iraci to Tim Melloy is announced by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Iraci, 420 Ninth St.

Cadet Michael Lucca, son of Mr. and Mrs. Livio Lucca, 1118 10th St., who is a junior at the Air Force Academy in Colorado, has received successive honors at the academy.

Dennis Jonson, who is serving in the United States Navy and is stationed at Charleston, S.C., is home for a two-week leave.

50 YEARS AGO

Marine Lance Corporal Jerry W. Moxley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Moxley, Island View Route, was selected to participate in the Fourth Quarter Intramural Rifle and Pistol shoot at the Marine Corps Base, Twentynine Palms, Calif., where he is currently serving.

Arthur M. Gross, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Gross, of 1104 Eighth St., is serving in the Bureau of Naval Personnel, Washington, D.C.

Maude Revell, who has been waiting on customers for 39 of her 75 years, was doing just that today when Journal photographer Joe Gust stopped by the Chicago Cafe to take a birthday photo of Maude.

Dale Sundin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Einar Sundin, had the misfortune to break his leg while skating at school Wednesday.

60 YEARS AGO

A daughter was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Phaklides, weight, 8 pounds, 8 ounces.

A son was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Jornas Turner.

Mr. and Mrs. Art Erickson Jr. and Mrs. Ruby Thompson and children were dinner guests at the William Forsythe home.

Mrs. Vernon Oveson was honored guest at a stork shower last evening at the home of Mrs. Clarence Oveson, Ranier.

70 YEARS AGO

Mrs. Joe Owen and children moved to Eveleth for the winter. Mr. Owen is employed in Duluth.

Mrs. Fred Dolachuk, 610 Ninth St., entertained at a shower complimenting Mrs. Nels Snustad, Sterna Apartments.

Claude Dahl, 14-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Dahl, came home Sunday from Littlefork Hospital, where he submitted to an appendectomy over a week ago.

Mrs. Katie Scott left Saturday for St. Paul where she will be employed at the State Capitol. She has spent several months here visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hanson.
