Former Falls High football, basketball and track standout Wayne Roberts gained honorable mention when the NAIA Little-America grid team was announced recently. Roberts, who graduated from Falls High in 1984, completed his junior year as an outside linebacker on the Moorhead State University grid team this past fall.

Sunnyside Quick-Stop, Highway 11-71, conducted a ribbon cutting for its grand opening this morning. Owner is Dick DeBenedet and manager is Jim Luethmers.

40 YEARS AGO

Wendy Belanger will be student teaching fifth grade at the Alexander Baker Elementary School during the winter quarter.

Mr. and Mrs. Roy E. Krats, 1311 Ninth St., have “adopted” David Mancachi, a 5-year-old Bolivian boy through Foster Parents Plan, by contributing $16 a month for the child’s care.

William A. Kraske has been appointed assistant director of research for the Boise Cascade paper group, according to Dr. W.H. McPherson, director.

50 YEARS AGO

Hartman Brothern, who graduates tomorrow from the University of Wichita, Wichita, Kan., has been named associate editor of The Wichita, a weekly pictorial newspaper.

The Edward Bolters entertained the Alfred Belanger family, the Eugene Bolters, Mrs. Joe Belanger and Mr. and Mrs. Morris Vold and Billy recently.

A baby shower was held on Tuesday evening for Mrs. Robert Dobbs at the home of Mrs. Ivan Crawford.

A bridal shower was held Tuesday in honor of Mrs. George Enquist at the home of Mrs. LaVern Batdorf.

Mrs. Florence Thompson, manager of the Stevenson’s store here, will leave Sunday for Devil’s Lake, N.D., to take over management of a Stevenson’s store.

Pfc. James Jorgenson, who has received his Army discharge papers, arrived home from Fort Sill, Okla.

R.S. Mitchner, Daily Journal advertising solicitor, is confined to La Verendrye Hospital, Fort Frances. He fractured his left wrist in a fall several days ago.

New officers of Girl Scout Troop 139 are: Alice Meyers, president; Sandra Passe, vice president; Pernell Mirka, secretary-treasurer; Kay Paulson, scribe; Jeanine Holbrook, door-keeper; and Nancy Wagner, Juliette Low chairman.

70 YEARS AGO

Mrs. James Curran, 1112 Seventh St., is confined to her bed with a sprained ankle.

F.G. Robbie, formerly of Faribault, joined the J.C. Penney store staff Monday in the capacity of assistant manager.

Mr. and Mrs. Anton O. Rud, whose marriage was an event of Jan. 20, are residing in Ranier.

Mrs. Bruce Davison was guest of honor at a shower at her home. Hostesses were Mrs. Phillip St. Pierre, Mrs. John Franko and Mrs. Frank Waldbillig.
