Leroy Keeney and Susan Irby earned places on North Dakota State University dean’s list.

It had been billed as a world-class event and by the time the Pabst-Voyageur International Speed Run had concluded Saturday, 18 new snowmobile world records were established.

John Mueller of Littlefork was elected chairman of the Koochiching County Board of Commissioners. Elected vice-chairman was Innis S. (Sonny) Nesbitt.

Bill Readman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Readman, 1124 Eighth St., will be installed as master counselor of MacNeill Chapter, Order of DeMolay, at 7:30 p.m. Sunday in the Masonic Temple. 

There was a family reunion during the Christmas holiday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charley M. Johnson, 1112 Eighth Ave.

A baby was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Dennis R. Frank, Newport, Rainy Lake, 6 pounds, 15 ounces.

A boy was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Fred Dilly, 8 pounds, 3 3/4 ounces.

A girl was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Steve Benedix, 6 pounds, 4 ounces.

New officers of Brownie Troop 162 are: president, Ardath Sharpe; vice president, Cammy Cooper; secretary, Nancy Lee Enzmann; treasurer, Dorothy Eklund.

60 YEARS AGO

Among Falls students who left Sunday for colleges and universities after the holidays at their homes were Shirley Thompson, a sophomore at St. Olaf College, and Patricia Sheehy, a student at Villa of St. Scholastica.

Mr. and Mrs. James Lessard, Ranier, had as their guests for a New Year’s breakfast Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Bolstad and daughters, Margaret and Elizabeth, and Betty Jean Houska.

Forrest L. Gookins, cafe operator, heads the slate of 1953 Chamber of Commerce officers who will be installed at the annual meeting in Community Auditorium at 6:30 p.m. Monday.

The adult typing classes on Monday and Thursday at 7 p.m. will be resumed next week at Falls High School, John Veranth, instructor, has announced.

Donald H. Davison is an electrician’s mate serving aboard a United States cruiser in Atlantic waters.

Mrs. R.C. Snyder was guest of honor at a shower last evening at her home, 719 Seventh street.  Hostesses were Mrs. Elmer Anderson and Mrs. Hawley Christianson.

Michael Poster, 418 Ninth St., announces the engagement of his daughter, Anna May, to Leonard Harding Nord, son of Mrs. Martin Skyskar, Shapira Apartments.

Patricia Sullivan, who has been seen in several local talent plays in the past, will play the ingenue lead in Ann Coulter Martens’ clever farce-comedy, “Don’t Darken My Door,” which is scheduled for Jan. 7 and 8, with student matinee on Jan. 7.
