Private First Class Dan Benedix, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Benedix of Rogers Route, has completed a 13-week schedule of Marine Corps recruit training at San Diego, Calif.

Private First Class Leslie LaValla, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin M. LaValla of Ray, has been assigned to the Staff and Faculty Command at Fort Sill, Okla., following his holiday leave at his parental home.

Mrs. Muriel Backlund, resident director at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth, spent the Christmas holidays in Phoenix, Ariz., and Fullerton, Calif., where she visited Mrs. Doris Larson, a former resident of Ericsburg; her nephew and family, the Dennis Ericksons; and her nieces and their families, the Chuck Nordvalls and the Pete Warrens.

Airman Basic Ronald J. Kopp, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Kopp, 810 10th St., is being reassigned to Robins Air Force Base, Ga., for training and duty as a vehicle operator.

Barbara Christenson completed the prescribed course in cosmetology at the Thief River Falls Area Vocational School recently.

Mr. and Mrs. Clem Lepper, 1111 13th Ave., announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Gail Marie, to Bennie Barstad of Littlefork.

Bemidji State College students Jack C. Blake, Harry Johnson, Judith Lundquist, Ronald Ostman, Phyllis Pierce and Sandy Thunstrom were named to the dean’s list.

Twi birthday parties marked the 87th anniversary of John Sheehy, northern Minnesota old-timer who makes his home with a son, Emmett Sheehy, 805 Fourth St.

Cy Kirvan is recovering at his home, 712 Seventh St., from injuries received in a fall last week.

A daughter was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Peter Biondich, 915 Fifth St., weight, 7 pounds, 6 ounces.

Emmith Larson, French Addition, has been confined to Falls Memorial Hospital for the past week for treatment of pneumonia.

Mr. and Mrs. R.O. Knutson of Holler announce the birth of a daughter today at the Laurion Maternity Home.

Miss Helen Malvey, senior high school domestic science instructor for four terms, has resigned her post effective Feb. 1.

District 4 school officials today announced the resignation of Arne B. Larson, instrumental music director since September, 1939.

Like Good Samaritans, women of the Jameson community rallied to the aid of the William Price and Martin Wilcox families, whose homes and all possessions were destroyed in a single fire.
