Mr. and Mrs. Nick Lucachick, 1020 11th St., were honored July 4 on the occasion of their 25th wedding anniversary.

A girl was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Peter Mai.

Donald Lewis swept the Grand Rapids Soap Box Derby taking the B class championship trophy, the City Championship of Grand Rapids plaque and the trophy for the fastest heat from International Falls — less than 1,000 feet in 34.3 seconds.

Phillip D. Johnson, a student at North Park Theological Seminary, Chicago, is serving as intern-assistant pastor at the Covenant church in Worcester, Mass. He is the son of the Rev. and Mrs. Lloyd Johnson, 313 Eighth St.

A boy was born today at La Verendrye Hospital, Fort Frances, to Mr. and Mrs. Mervin Mannausau, Island View Route, 6 pounds, 12 ounces.

A girl was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Albert Erickson, 6 pounds, 14 1/2 ounces.

Brian Lindvall of Littlefork has been promoted to airman second class in the United States Air Force.

A daughter was born today to Mr. and Mrs. George K. Millard Jr., at Falls Memorial Hospital. Weight, 9 pounds, 3 ounces.

A son was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Morrison, Ranier, weight, 6 pounds, 9 ounces. Name chosen, Norman Leslie.

A son was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Cyril Walker, South International Falls, weight, 8 pounds, 5 ounces. Name chosen, Bruce Allan.

Mrs. Ray Sowder, 909 Second St., was guest of honor at a farewell party at the home of Mrs. Clarence Larson, 515 Second St. Mrs. Sowder and two daughters will leave Aug. 1 to join Mr. Sowder in Newton, Iowa, where he has been transferred as manager of a Penney store.

 

70 YEARS AGO

Onni Koski, Mando forester for the past 18 months, has been recruited to give his professional services to the solution of America’s rubber problem. He will leave next week for Washington, D.C., on the first leg of a journey which will end in the far interior of Brazil, where wild rubber growths are to be developed to meet the serious shortage.

Sheriff Hugh Reidy today announced the appointment of A.J. Carew as deputy sheriff. The new deputy was named, Reidy said, because he expects to lose soon the services of Deputy Ed Anderson, who plans to enter the service.

The new Morse Federated store, on the site of the former Phillips Variety shop, will open for business with a full line of new merchandise Saturday, July 18.

Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Hanson, 618 1/2 Ninth St., announce the birth of a son today at the Littlefork Hospital. George Michael are the names chosen for the boy.
