Howard Grinsell, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Grinsell, was presented the Minneapolis Star and Tribune outstanding salesman special award.

Mrs. Ora Hazen of the Falls recently had surgery at St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth.

Mrs. Jess Hall returned Monday to her home in South International Falls following a three-week visit with her son Jess Jr. and family in Anoka.

 

50 YEARS AGO

A girl was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Duane Lenth, 7 pounds, 3/4 ounces.

Roy Manley, assistant timber buyer of the Mando logging division, has been appointed a member of the Koochiching County Local Board No. 60 of Selective Service.

Mrs. Charlotte Hess and Mrs. Esther Walls have returned from a three-week vacation in the West. They attended the Seattle World’s Fair, visited Disneyland and other interesting sights in California and Mexico.

A four-way race for Koochiching County sheriff developed yesterday. Candidates are Sheriff Ed Anderson, Walt Whitbeck, Frank Youso and Milton Kochaniuk.

 

60 YEARS AGO

A daughter was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Donald Gibson, 429 1/2 Third St., weight, 9 pounds, 4 ounces.

Falls Chamber of Commerce employees settled down to routine duties at the new Welcome Center today after serving capacity crowds at grand opening exercises Saturday. The building is located at the intersection of Second Avenue and Fourth Street.

Margaret Miller, Loman, is employed by Mrs. Daniel Green at the Falls.

Funeral services for Gerald J. Stout, 9, who died Monday evening as a result of injuries sustained in a bicycle-auto accident, are set for 2 p.m. Friday in Green Mortuary chapel.

 

70 YEARS AGO

Jack McWilliams and Fred Lovell, who left today for the West Coast, were guests of honor at a farewell party Saturday evening in Moose Hall.

On July 17, Jack Linsten will graduate from navy aviation school with the rating of third class petty officer, aviation machinist mate and will be shipped to a permanent station.

Mr. and Mrs. Tom Withrow left yesterday for the Twin Cities. Mr. Withrow reports to Fort Snelling today.

Pvt. Arnold Aasen, U.S. Army Air Corps, has been assigned to the First Mapping Group, Bolling Field, Washington, D.C.
