Mrs. William L. Rogers Sr. of South International Falls returned to her home from Milwaukee, Wis., after spending three weeks with her children and taking care of her property there.

Carolyn Olson, wife of Falls native Len Olson, is just two days away from finishing her 3,397-mile Trans-America Bike Trek that she and 194 others began in Seattle on June 1. The trek was formed to help raise money for the American Lung Association.

A girl was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Fred Shoquist, Ranier.

Karen R. Knutson and Bonnie C. Lucca of the Falls were among the 1,075 students named to the spring quarter dean’s list at St. Cloud State College.

Carole Propotnick, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Ewing of the Falls, who is a Western Airlines stewardess, is the airlines’ special delegate to the Democratic convention which opens today in Miami Beach.

 

50 YEARS AGO

A boy was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Harold Johnson, Allen Patrick, 7 pounds, 7 1/2 ounces.

A boy was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hagen, 8 pounds, 12 1/2 ounces.

Neal Anderson, assistant manager of F.W. Woolworth company, has been transferred to Crookston to further his training in the company.

Jerry Jensen is expected to take the mound tonight when the Mandos face the visiting Baudette team at 8 p.m. at the ball park diamond. Jensen, who generally goes all the way, despite being hampered still by an ankle fracture last spring, will be relieved by Les Etienne should it be necessary.

 

60 YEARS AGO

Pfc. Gustav Stavseth, Ranier, left for the El Toro Marine air base, Santa Ana, Calif., after spending a 30-day furlough with his wife and infant son, Bruce. Bruce was born June 10, just two days after his father arrived home to begin his leave.

A daughter was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Veeder, 805 1/2 Fourth St., weight, 6 pounds, 14 ounces.

Mr. and Mrs. R.C. Shaw, 325 Fifth Ave., announce the engagement of their daughter, Jessie, to Ronald Laurion, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Laurion, 417 Fifth St.

Pfc. James Faulkner arrived home recently to spend a furlough from Fort Bragg, N.C., with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.S. Faulkner, 1400 Second Ave. E.

 

70 YEARS AGO

Oscar Bergstrom has purchased 40 acres of land near his father’s place on the Black River Road. The tract is part of the Monte Moe Sr. homestead. Oscar plans to build soon. He is employed at present wrecking the old residence on the E.J. Helmer place.

Warner Grandaw gave blood for a critically ill patient at the Littlefork Hospital and the same evening Leo Brunette was donor for a case at La Verendrye Hospital, Fort Frances. Lawrence Ruelle was also ready to serve the Fort Frances patient. The men are members of the Knights of Columbus blood donors group.

Miss Lillian Crabtree will begin her duties as children’s playground supervisor this week, followed by appointment by the city council Monday evening.

In line with its general policy to protect and preserve all vital resources, the city council approved a resolution to the effect “...in the interest of the war effort, all candidates for public office should conduct their campaigns by mail and through the newspapers as far as possible” to save gas.
