Larry R. Crosby of Route 9 has been named to the dean’s list at Providence College in Rhode Island.

Kristen Bradseth, who will be a senior at Falls Senior High School this fall, was second place winner at the second annual national Pro-Life Oratory conducted at the Hilton Hotel in New Orleans.

 

40 YEARS AGO

A girl was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Loren Jantzen.

Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Johnson will be honored at an open house on the occasion of their 25th wedding anniversary Friday beginning at 9 p.m. in the Ukrainian Hall.

Buzz Christensen received his John Pushkin Insurance Hole-In-One trophy from sponsor John Pushkin. Christensen made his ace early in July on the ninth hole when his tee shot went in on the fly. An eyewitness to the shot was Alex Pleimling.

 

50 YEARS AGO

Bob Riley, a Mando millwright who started playing golf only a few years ago, copped his first golf tournament here Sunday by winning the Eighth Annual Smokey Bear Invitational at Falls Country Club.

Mr. and Mrs. John H. Hunter of Littlefork announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Linda Coleen, to Roger H. Bradburn, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bradburn of Littlefork.

Tyrone Bujold, 24, a June graduate of the University of Minnesota Law School, arrived in the Falls yesterday and on Monday will join County Attorney John D. Furuseth in the practice of law.

Mrs. Roy Manley and Mrs. E.N. Frykman were hostesses at the Manley home, 807 Second St., honoring Mrs. Peter Flaa, who with her family, will leave in August to reside in St. Paul.

Cpl. Ernest Demuth arrived home this morning after receiving his release from service in the army at Fort Riley, Kan.

Mrs. Jack Bennington, 117 13th St., entertained the eight members of the Birthday Club Wednesday evening in celebration of her birthday.

A daughter was born yesterday at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Fehrman, South International Falls, weight, 8 pounds, 3 ounces.

Gerald Maxwell and Randy Etienne, both 20, enlisted in the Air Force and left Monday by bus for induction at Minneapolis.

 

70 YEARS AGO

Mrs. Verna Sartain, celebrating her birthday Wednesday, received one of the best gifts a mother could get — a long distance call from her son, Pvt. Loren Sartain, from Glendale, Calif.

Jerry Sumner underwent a tonsillectomy this morning at the Littlefork Hospital.

Miss Gertrude Danielson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Danielson of Birchdale, who left her home June 15 to visit relatives, Mr. and Mrs. B.W. Lundgren in Marysville, Wash., is now employed at the Boeing Aircraft Company in Seattle, Wash.

More than 35 neighbors and friends gathered at the Archie Little home, Carson-Lupie, last evening to celebrate the 101st birthday of John Henry Little, believed to be Koochiching County’s oldest person.
