25 YEARS AGO

Jay J. Bartkowski, son of James and Louise Bartkowski and Kevin J. Mongrain, son of Paul and Mary Mongrain, have been named to the Saint John’s University dean’s list.

Gina Washburn has been named director at the Northland Developmental Achievement Center. Washburn fills the position following former director Mary Friendt’s decision to leave the center to pursue other interests.

 

40 YEARS AGO

The Northland Mental Health Board has accepted the resignation of Dr. Frank Kiesler as area program director. Succeeding Dr. Kiesler as area program director will be Thomas Bounds.

Wayne A. Christenson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Merton Christenson of Ranier, has enlisted in the U.S. Navy.

Joyce C. Kohlhase who retired June 30 following 45 years as an educator in the Minnesota school system is looking forward to some gardening, fishing, hunting and snowmobiling during his leisure years.

 

50 YEARS AGO

Marriage vows were exchanged by Sharla Rose Larson and Perry Eide, both of Littlefork, on June 23.

A boy was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Blake Napper, 8 pounds, 3 ounces.

Adolph H. Hartje, Rogers Route, retired recently as Mando hydro electric operator, after 42 years with the company.

Herbert E. (Herb) Kvist, Ranier, finds more time to devote to his hobby of wood carving and repairing of furniture in his complete workshop since his recent retirement after 34 years as a Mando employee.

 

60 YEARS AGO

Seven Littlefork youths left Tuesday to join the Navy. They are Roger Rassier, John DeLack, Gordon Bergh, Edwin Fry, Marvin Wesen and brothers Duane and Orville Janzen.

A son was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to  Mr. and Mrs. John Sweney, Ranier, 6 pounds, 4 ounces.

A daughter was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Piekarski.

Donald Septon, 7-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Septon, Henry’s Cabins, was to be released from Falls Memorial Hospital this afternoon following an accident while playing baseball which resulted in a fractured leg.

 

70 YEARS AGO

Approximately 500 men and women who realize the importance of their respective jobs in the successful prosecution of the war will form the main body of an “America on the March” parade scheduled to headline the American Legion Fourth celebration here Saturday afternoon.

Mr. and Mrs. Edward Thiele of International Falls are parents of a daughter born at the Littlefork Hospital today.

The Misses Ann Havluck and Elizabeth Wenberg have joined the Koochiching County welfare office this week with ratings as clerk-stenographer I.

Harvey B. Jensen, popular International Falls army aviation cadet, was killed today in a crash of a bi-motored advanced training plane at Victorville, Calif. Harvey was a co-owner with his father and brothers of the Union Taxi Company here.
