Leann Monroe and John Blankman Sr. have been recognized for their achievements in public speaking with the “Spirit of Success” award from Voyageurs Toastmasters.

 

40 YEARS AGO

June 30, 1972, marked the end of government service for Calvin Bolsinger, Harry Anderson and Charles Knoblauch, officers of the Customs and Immigration Service at the International Falls-Ranier port. They had a combined total of more than 120 years of government duty.

Mr. and Mrs. James Valentine, 1603 Ninth Ave. W., announce the forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Betty Rae, to Jay Allen Mitchell, son of Mrs. Glenn Mitchell, 12th Street West.

The Supreme Council, Order of DeMolay awarded the Legion of Honor degree to C.A. “Chuck” Armstrong at its recent annual session.

 

50 YEARS AGO

Mr. and Mrs. William Germain, 340 14th St. W., announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Linda May, to Gerald O. Simon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Simon, Loman Route.

A girl, Nancy Marie, was born July 4 at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Roy Glubka, 1205 First Ave. W., 7 pounds, 7 1/2 ounces.

A girl, Pamala Gail, was born July 4 at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Glen Hazelton, Littlefork, 9 pounds, 5 ounces.

Elvin Oveson, who left Borderland in 1920 when he was only 10 years of age, arrived from Lake Minnetonka today and will be around to surprise a number of relatives who still live here.

 

60 YEARS AGO

Mrs. Randall Hoss, the former Eleanor Foote, who attended school in the Falls, visited here this week and renewed acquaintanceships.

A son was born July 4 at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Roy Servis, weight, 6 pounds, 13 ounces.

Stuart Johnson, a J.C. Penney employee for 21 years, took over his duties as manager of the firm’s store in the Falls this week. He succeeds manager R.W. Sowder, who recently was transferred to Newton, Iowa.

The International Falls City Council recently approved the application of Oswald Rickbiel for a dray license.

 

70 YEARS AGO

Employees of the M. & O. kraft mill honored Julius Ranthum, one of their fellow co-workers, at a party at the Dutch Room Grill. Mr. Ranthum, who has been with the paper company for 15 years, will leave for duty with the U.S. Army this month.

After being closed for over a year, the dining-car restaurant on the corner of Eighth Street on Highway 53, will open Saturday. Formerly operated by Harry Saito, the car is to be operated by Mrs. Paul Collette, formerly of Grafton, N.D.

Mr. and Mrs. Ross Pelland (Emelyn Monrean) of Pelland have chosen Virginia Ann as the names for their daughter born July 3 in the Northern Minnesota Hospital.

Mr. and Mrs. William Stillar Jr., Thirteenth Avenue, announce the birth of daughter at the Littlefork Hospital. Sharon Marie are the names chosen for the child.
