A girl was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Helderman.
International Falls youths Doug Furuseth, Steve Johnson, Bob Stone, Steve Curran, Greg Johnson, Don Lewis, Jim Stone and Greg Hellings will be competing Sunday in Grand Rapids for a $500 savings bond and a trip to Akron, Ohio, for the All-American Soap Box Derby.
Lt. Dan Sjogren, 20, of St. Paul arrived here this week to being duties as a member of the International Falls Salvation Army Corps. He will replace Lt. Dan May.

Mr. and Mrs. Otto Clarity, 1022 Ninth St., who have resided in the border city for 20 years, celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary recently.
Peter Flaa, immigrant inspector stationed at International Bridge for the past 15 years, has accepted an assignment with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Service in the St. Paul office.
Donald L. Kockelman, airman apprentice, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Kockelman, Island View Route, was graduated June 8 from the aviation familiarization school at the Naval Air Technical Training Center, Memphis, Tenn.
The members of Zion Lutheran Church will welcome their new assistant pastor, Rev. John Gunderson, at an informal reception Sunday evening at 8 o’clock. Pastor and Mrs. Gunderson have recently moved to the Falls and are residing at 808 Sixth St.

A daughter was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Sullivan, weight, 8 pounds, 8 ounces.
Mrs. Henry Forrer, early-day border settler and widow of the first Koochiching County sheriff, visited friends in Littlefork and other communities last weekend.
Mrs. Gerald Wagness, Roberts’ Island, Rainy Lake, entertained her sister, Mrs. Verne Gowan, the former Mary Louise Weber, at a party. The Roberts’ cruiser, Virginia, was used to transport the 10 guests to and from the island. A guest at the party was Mrs. L. Scheldrup, Tulsa, Okla., who is vacationing at Roberts’ Island.
Mr. and Mrs. John Marks, 1313 First Ave. W., announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Miss Mabel Bellanger, to Christopher Cantrell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Julius Koch, Keyes Arcade.

Miss Alma Lee Dahlberg of Chicago arrived this morning to spend the summer at the Dahlberg summer home on Rainy Lake. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. B.G. Dahlberg, and party arrived here July 3.
Mrs. Clyde Martin was guest of honor at a surprise birthday party at the home of Mrs. Carl Nilson, Rainy Lake.
Carl Gerlach, 42, Van Lynn Road, was severely injured in a fall from the roof of the Insulite plant. His condition is reported by his physician as “not too bad” considering the extent of his injuries which include both arms broken, a fractured pelvis, dislocated thumb and badly bruised back.
The Schulz Baking Company will close at noon Thursday and remain closed all day out of respect for a late partner in the firm, Mrs. O.C. Dessen (Josephine Schulz).
