Sophie King celebrated her birthday Thursday with friends and relatives at her daughter Agnes McIntyre’s apartment. That may sound unremarkable, until you consider that King is 101 years old.

Anton (Tony) Stappler, immigrant inspector, is the newest addition to the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization staff on International Bridge.
Five cadets of Group II, Civil Air Patrol, were among the 187 Minnesota cadets attending the summer encampment at Scott Air Force Base, Ill. The group consisted of Bill Holen, cadet commander, Betty J. Domish, Jeanette M. Jenkins, Ricki Blanchard and Gilbert Qualey.
1962 Timbertennial queen candidates are Nita Ewing, Georgiann Narbo, Susan Sellman, Vicki Lucachick and Betty Frederick.

Phyllis Misner, who graduated this year from Falls High School and has been residing with her grandmother, Mrs. Henry Hanson, South International Falls, left Sunday evening for Benton City, Wash.
Leo Anderson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Anderson, Island View Route, has been named bureau manager of the United Press in the Marion, Ill., office.

Harry Borashiuk, who leaves for the army this week, was guest of honor at a party in the Ukrainian Hall. Host and hostesses were George Shihkowsky, Mrs. Nick Hnatiuk and Mrs. Dan Haponuk.
Mr. and Mrs. John Engelking (Valeria Hodel) of this city are parents of a daughter born today at the Laurion Maternity Home. They have named her Carol Lee.
Jack Murray, son of Mr. and Mrs. P.C. Murray, and George Biondich Jr. left for Minneapolis where they planned to enlist in the Army Air Corps.
Little Barbara Bartkowski, 6-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Steve Bartkowski, died at 6:40 a.m. Tuesday, victim of a gun that “wasn’t loaded.” Funeral services are to be conducted at 9 a.m. Thursday in St. Thomas Church. Flower girls will be Maxine Gilbertson, Joanna Brunette, Dolores Huttemier, Barbara Gilbertson, Mary Ann Iraci and Dolores Gray.
