Mr. and Mrs. James Nicodemus and their daughter, Trella, are proud to announce the birth of their daughter and sister, Rebecca Ann, 5 pounds, 7 ounces, 18 1/2 inches long, born today.

Bob Nelson carded a sizzling 33 on the back nine Saturday, and along with his 35 on the front nine, it was good enough for a victory in the Butch Larson shortstop golf tourney at Falls Country Club. Nelson edged Cory Wilcox for the title.

 

40 YEARS AGO

Jeff Lindvall won the annual Falls Country Club shortstop tournament with a two over par 72. Rod Christensen was runner-up and Poncho Krantz birdied the last hole to finish third.

City playground summer directors are Shirley Sampson, Nancy Barber, Candice Phillips and Karen Smyithe.

The City Beach will be open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. starting tomorrow. The head lifeguard will be Joel Anderson, assisted by Mike Soboleski, Gail Sjoblom and Anne Walter.

 

50 YEARS AGO

Mr. and Mrs. Harry Davey attended a reunion of her high school graduating class at Mound Saturday. Their daughter, Nancy, accompanied them to Sleepy Eye where she is spending two weeks with her grandmother, Mrs. Alice Davey.

Rodney W. Johnson, yeoman second class, USN, son of Alf V. Johnson, 904 Ninth St., has reported for duty at the naval base, Subic Bay, the Philippines.

Paul E. Ostlund, 19, son of Mrs. Gladys A. Ostlund, Birchdale, was recently promoted to specialist four in Karlsruhe, Germany, where he is a member of the 56th Medical Battalion’s Headquarters detachment.

A daughter was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Ray Maki, South International Falls, weight, 5 pounds, 3 ounces. Name chosen, Linda Rae.

A daughter was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Hjalmer Arola, South International Falls, weight, 6 pounds, 8 ounces. Name chosen, Mary Ann.

A son was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Merten Christianson, weight, 9 pounds, 9 ounces.

Miss Sylvia Alich, Falls elementary teacher, who will be married Saturday in St. Thomas Catholic Church, was guest of honor at a prenuptial shower in St. Thomas Parish Hall.

 

70 YEARS AGO

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Coran, Eleventh Avenue, announce the birth of a daughter today at the Northern Minnesota Hospital.

Mr. and Mrs. Ray Hendrickson of this city are the parents of a son born this morning at the Laurion Maternity Home. James LeRoy are the names chosen for the child.

Mr. and Mrs. John Kaviuk, who celebrated their 28th wedding anniversary Saturday, were guests of honor at a party in the Ukrainian Hall in the evening. Hostesses were Mrs. Harry Koblyk of this city and Mrs. J. Melnychuck of Fort Frances.

Mr. and Mrs. Ed Vennewitz of Sauk Centre left this morning after spending the weekend at the homes of Vincent Sabotta and Mrs. Catherine Stish. Mrs. Vennewitz is a sister of Mrs. Stish and Mr. Sabotta. While here the visitors enjoyed fishing on Rainy Lake.
