Senior Bronco sprinter and long jumper Stacey Burns was named this week to the Minnesota All-State Girls Track team.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation will close nine travel information centers in the state July 1, including the Falls Travel Information Center, because of lack of funds.

A girl was born yesterday at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Kruger, Michele Louise, 7 pounds, 15 1/2 ounces.

A girl was born June 17 at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Joe Lund.

Mr. and Mrs. Vernon T. Francis celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary at their residence. A party held in their honor was hosted by their five daughters.

A boy was born at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. John Wiczek, Ranier, 7 pounds, 13 ounces.

Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Morris and son, Charles, moved during the weekend from their home at 1108 14th Ave. to Braham. Mr. Morris was manager of the Border-Grand theaters until six months ago when he became seriously ill.

Mr. and Mrs. Joe Jones Sr., of Northome, were honored yesterday at a 5 o’clock dinner at Rainy Lake Lodge on the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary.

Mrs. Catherine Hobbins, 87, who came to International Falls in 1913, passed away early in the evening on June 15 at the home of her son, Francis, 1120 Seventh St.

A daughter was born yesterday at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hill, 1103 10th St., weight, 6 pounds, 13 ounces.

A son was born at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Ekman, weight, 7 pounds, 12 ounces.

Mrs. Gilbert Naus, Sleepy Hollow Cabins, was honored at a farewell party at the home of Mrs. Matt Jackovitch, 1012 Seventh St., by St. Thomas League. The Naus family plans to leave for Seattle July 7 to make their home.

Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Engbretson, who were married Saturday in St. Thomas Catholic Church here, are at home to friends at Apartment 11, Oveson Building. Mrs. Engbretson is the former Mary Sylvia Alich, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John J. Alich, Border.

 

70 YEARS AGO

Mrs. Fred Lindvall, who will leave tomorrow for Los Angeles, was guest of honor at a farewell party at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Arthur Kaufmann, 915 11th St.

Superintendent J.A. Sathrum announced that John Kalstad, senior high school mathematics instructor, has been selected for the Backus school principalship, and that William Morris of the junior high school staff will take charge of Alexander Baker School and the associated rural schools. Stanley Helleloid, who formerly held both posts, has been accepted for army service.

Pvt. James Dilworth, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Dilworth Sr., of Holler, sent word home today that he is now with the parachute troops at Camp Walters, Texas. He enlisted in the army June 9.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert O’Hara, 523 Eighth St., announce the birth of a son yesterday at the Northern Minnesota Hospital.
