25 YEARS AGO

Patricia Stewart, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Stewart of 1307 Beyer Drive, graduated May 23 from Hamline University with a bachelor of arts degree.

Wendy Johnson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Johnson, 828 Third St., graduated from University of Wisconsin-Stout with a bachelor’s degree in fashion merchandising.

 

40 YEARS AGO

Hockey coach Larry Ross presented John Dalton the Masterton Award at the close of last week’s hockey workshop in Bemidji. John’s teammates voted to give him the award, based on sportsmanship, leadership and skill on the ice. John is the 13-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. John Dalton, 1414 11th Ave.

Staff Sergeant Gary Beach has arrived home on leave following his second tour of Vietnam.

Just a note to let you know that we are going to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary with an open house and reception July 1 at 8 p.m. in Elks Hall. We are likewise celebrating our 25 years in the refrigeration business, serving our friends in the International Falls area. John and Violet Pariseau.

 

50 YEARS AGO

Falls students Duane Raymond Cook, Russell Day Hanover, Duane Myron Bush, and Joseph Earl McGregor received degrees from the University of Minnesota during commencement exercises recently.

Army Pfc. Ronald K. Hilke, son of Mr. and Mrs. F.A. Hilke, Island View Route, has completed the eight-week cooking course at the Quartermaster School, Fort Lee, Va.

Kathy Kaviuk won a special buggy with a rumble seat, chain wheel drive and sun canopy at The Bootery Saturday.

James Coran, who will be a senior this fall, won first prize in the 8th District American Legion Poppy Poster Contest at Virginia recently. A second Falls youth, Ronald Nagurski, won third prize in the class one division.

 

60 YEARS AGO

Mrs. Arthur Fehrman was honored at a stork shower at the home of Mrs. Robert Stish, 1320 Third Ave. E. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Stish, Mrs. John Thompson and Mrs. Robert Taylor.

A daughter was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. William Culbertson, 610 Fourth Ave., weight, 6 pounds, 7 ounces. Name chosen, Charlene Ann.

Judy Pullar, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Pullar of Ericsburg, is in the Falls Memorial Hospital for treatment of an ear infection.

Charles Dunweber, son of Mr. and Mrs. T.W. Dunweber, 514 Seventh St., is home for the summer after completing his freshman year at Concordia College, Moorhead. He is a former Journal employee.

 

70 YEARS AGO

Mr. and Mrs. Nels Lundin, 1209 Sixth St., announce the birth of a daughter today at the Hanover Hospital in Littlefork.

Mr. and Mrs. H.B. Crotty Sr., guests of honor at a party to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary last night, didn’t get to the party until it was almost time for lunch. Fifteen couples gathered at the Crotty home, planning to surprise the Crottys. They had driven out in the country to visit friends, but were surprised when they arrived home at 10:30.

Mrs. Thomas Edens was guest of honor at a surprise birthday party at her home, Carson-Lupie. Hostess was Mrs. Valdamir Berglin.

Jack Patnode, son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Patnode, received his bachelor of arts degree June 8 at graduation exercises at Macalester College in St. Paul.
