A son was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Craig Peacock.

The engagement and forthcoming marriage of Miss Barbara Yutzy to John Coblentz is announced by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Eli Yutzy, Route 7.

Tom Prettyman returned to his home in Honolulu, Hawaii, after a 15-day visit in the Falls with his mother, Mrs. C.M. Prettyman, his brother, James Prettyman and family, and his sister, Mrs. E.J. Riley and family.

 

50 YEARS AGO

An open house will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the farm home of Mr. and Mrs. John Nyberg, former Falls residents now residing at rural Cass Lake, in honor of the couple’s 50th wedding anniversary. Mr. Nyberg was an employee of the International Lumber Company during his residence here.

A girl was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Nordrum, 8 pounds, 10 1/2 ounces.

Maureen Sheehy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Sheehy, 849 Riverside Drive, received notice Saturday that she is the recipient of a $500 scholarship from the John C. Dwan Foundation of Duluth. She plans to enroll at Marquette University, Mich., this fall.

60 YEARS AGO

A family dinner at the home of Mr. and Mrs. V.E. Crabtree, Rainy Lake, on Sunday will honor Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Gustafson of Spooner on their 51st wedding anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. Gustafson have been visiting at the home of their daughter, Mrs. Crabtree, for several days.

Mr. and Mrs. Michalek have recently moved here from Blackduck and have purchased the Charley Denny house in South International Falls.

A daughter was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Bennett LaVigne, 119 First Ave. W., weight, 7 pounds, 9 ounces. Name chosen, Barbara Ann.

Cpl. Walter Vedaa, 23, was killed in action in Korea last Thursday, according to word received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hjalmer Vedaa, of Indus.

 

70 YEARS AGO

Mr. and Mrs. Chester Jackson (Ruth O’Brien), Eleventh Avenue, are parents of a son born today at the Laurion Maternity Home. David Lewis are the names chosen for the child.

Mrs. William Price of Jameson Addition is a patient in Northern Minnesota Hospital following an appendectomy. She is getting along nicely.

Sixty-five friends gathered at the George Ruelle home, Highway 53, for a farewell party for Pvt. Rolland E. Ruelle, who has spent several days at home following his induction to the U.S. Army.

Mr. and Mrs. Ben Ringwelski, Papermakers Colony, announce the birth of a son today at the Laurion Maternity Home.
