40 YEARS AGO
Motorists honk at horses who obstruct highway traffic. They curse at cyclists. But somehow a woman and three children bicycling along Highway 11 and 32 evoked only waves, smiles and offers of food and drink. Mrs. Les Molskness of 1027 Eighth St., and her three children, Susie, 11, Sherri, 10, and Jeff, 8, peddled 209 miles from International Falls to Thief River Falls.
Dancers have been accused of having two left feet but Don Pelowski, manager of The Bootery, has reason to believe there is a thief with four right feet. Pelowski, told the police that four moccasins, all for the right foot, were taken from his store at 316 Third St. sometime during the past week.
Miss Lori Ann Braford, State DeMolay Sweetheart, joined 17 other State DeMolay Sweethearts at the first International DeMolay Sweetheart Pageant held June 18 through 21 at the Diplomat Hotel in Hollywood, Fla.

Mrs. Nils Anderson and her twin daughters, Pamela Maxine and Patricia Irene, who were born May 28, were feted June 22 at a party at the home of Mrs. Anderson. Miss Theo Ann Anderson assisted her mother with the gift opening.
LaCasa Blanca at Crystal Beach is now open for business from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. under new management. Serving Spanish and American food. Owned and operated by Edith McPherson.
The violent storm that boiled over Borderland at 2:48 p.m. Thursday smashed aircraft, flung boats into the air, toppled trees and disrupted electric power and telephone service. Lightning ripped through at least two buildings. One bolt tore apart a brick chimney and ripped up floors in the second story of a home owned by Albert M. Nelson, 1501 Ninth Ave.
60 YEARS AGO
Mrs. Jesse Rose, 1101 Ninth Ave., entertained wives of 1951 and 1952 Falls baseball association directors at a coffee party. The 30 guests honored Mrs. Eddy Wichert, Blackstone Apartments, with a kitchen shower. Mrs. Wichert recently became the bride of the Mando pitcher.
Miss Anna Mae Wietecha, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Wietecha, 1112 Ninth Ave., graduated from College of St. Scholastica school of nursing June 15.
Petro Majewski, about 65, was taken by ambulance to Falls Memorial Hospital about 2 p.m. today after he was stricken at the Peoples Cafe, 224 Second Ave.
Leonard Melville, instructor at Backus Junior High School, is studying towards a master’s degree in art at the University of Colorado, at Boulder. He is expected to return for the opening of school here next fall.
70 YEARS AGO
LeRoy Fish, nurseryman and landscape gardener now residing at Orr, was awarded the job of trimming trees along International Falls city streets and boulevards. Mr. Fish told the city council he would have to get 85 cents an hour for his services.
Little Miss Peggy Ann Masters returned this morning from the Twin Cities and Bemidji where she visited relatives and friends.
Mr. and Mrs. M.H. McNichols, 1103 Eighth St., motored to Littlefork Sunday and were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. James Robertson.
