The 45th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Johnson was celebrated at a picnic feast recently on the lawn of Annele Sparks, 116 12th St. W.

Robbie Fish and Cassandra Biggins, both sixth graders at St. Thomas School, were winners in an essay contest sponsored by Koochiching County Senior Center in conjunction with Senior Citizens Month.

There will be a 25th wedding anniversary open house for Mr. and Mrs. Reo Brown at the Rosfjord Club Room in Littlefork from 2 to 5 p.m. on June 11.

A family reunion honoring the 86th birthday of Mrs. Charles Lewis, Woodland Apartments, International Falls, was held at the Ray School, Ray.

Stuart Milette, Linda Milette, Randy Pozniak and Joseph Rizzo have been named to the spring semester dean’s list at the University of North Dakota at Grand Forks.

50 YEARS AGO

Larry Mannausau left recently for Mora, where he is employed.

Fifty-two years ago, on June 6, 1910, Minnesota and Ontario Paper Company made its first ton of paper at International Falls.

Mrs. Tony Lucca departed this morning by airliner for a three-month visit in her native Italy.

Terry Shewchuk, 13, Falls city VFW marble champion, finished second during the Minnesota state marble tournament at Rochester.

60 YEARS AGO

Art Turenne, proprietor of International Ice Company, today denied reports current in the city that he is going out of business. Turenne said he wouldn’t be closing up shop with 34,000 tons of ice stored in his Second Avenue ice house.

Mayor and Mrs. Archie Kelley, Erickson building, announce the engagement of their daughter, Nora Mae, to Donald W. Cole, son of Mrs. Martha Cole, 1103 Eighth St.

Bob Murray, the Falls athlete who went on to make a great name for himself at the University of Minnesota, Duluth branch, last week added another honor to his long list of achievements. Murray, captain of last year’s Bulldog football team, was cited as the outstanding sportsman of the year at the branch.

There was an eight-year span between the time Arthur Holmstrom started his senior year at Falls High School and his graduation last night. His education was interrupted by a bout with tuberculosis in which he was the victor after a long, courageous fight. Arthur, 26, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gust Holmstrom, 615 Fifth St.

70 YEARS AGO

Mr. and Mrs. Mike Drobot, Fort Frances, have announced the engagement of their daughter, Lily, to Joseph Taschuk, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Zigo, International Falls. The wedding will be an event of June 21.

Guerney Rambo who was very ill with mumps and also threatened with pneumonia, has recovered and is up and around as usual.

Mr. and Mrs. Harry Bucklin and son, Joseph, of Bemidji, are visiting at the home of Mrs. Bucklin’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gus Stavseth, Jameson Addition.

Mr. and Mrs. E.W. Headsten and daughters, Mary and Nancy, moved to their summer home on Rainy Lake today. They plan to spend the summer there.
