Cheering their last basketball game of this season were cheerleaders Laurie Balcolm, Mary Veranth, Tracy Weum, Chris Kuryla, Marcia Michelek, Tweety Phair and Marilyn Boucher.

V.E. Crabtree, 74, Island View Route, died this afternoon at San Diego, Calif. He was Koochiching County engineer from 1940 to 1957.

Chief of Police Al Couture, a veteran of 30 years with the border city police department, has announced his intentions to retire next Oct. 15.

James Derr, son of Mr. and Mrs. B.J. Derr, 117 Park Ave., is one of the 137 students named on the College of St. Thomas dean’s list.

Miss Peggy Gjesdahl, 22, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Erick Gjesdahl, former Falls residents now of Green Bay, Wis., recently played the role of a can-can girl in the play “Streetcar Named Desire” at Minot State Teachers College, Minot, N.D.

Ronald McClanahan, Birch Point, is a patient at St. Mary’s Hospital, Duluth.

Steve Leolich, 20-year-old sophomore at Colorado College and son of Mr. and Mrs. Tony Leolich, 709 Eighth St., is one of the stars of a CC hockey team which has again been named to the United States National Collegiate hockey playoffs.

Gordon F. Paschka resigned yesterday as head football and basketball coach at Falls High School. He has held the position since 1948.

Dick LaPage of the Falls Broncos was named to the Iron Range Conference all-star basketball squad during a meeting Saturday of coaches and athletic directors.

A son was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Evans Reed, South International Falls, weight, 7 pounds, 7 ounces. Name chosen, Gerald Allen.

Mr. and Mrs. Romeo Karsnia (Marie Donahue) announce the birth of a son, James, March 11 at the Littlefork Hospital.

Friday the 13th jinxes never worry Mrs. R.D. Medberry, South International Falls, who gave birth to her third “Friday the 13th Baby” at Northern Minnesota Hospital yesterday morning. The child, a girl, will most likely be named Jill.

Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Clark, Third Avenue, are parents of a son born today at the Laurion Maternity Home.

Einar Sundeen of Ray underwent an appendectomy at the Littlefork Hospital Sunday.
