Gene and Pat Kjellgren proudly announce the birth of their first grandchild. Matthew Steven was born today to Steve and Julie Kjellgren of Oshkosh, Wis.
Wayne Schlueter, a junior at Falls High School, spent the week of March 9-13 as a high school page for the state House of Representatives at the Capitol in St. Paul.

Promotion of Jack H. Faulkner to the salaried position of Boise Cascade pulp mill supervisor was reported today by William T. Martin, chemical pulp superintendent.
Winners of the City League basketball tournament last week were the Pions as they defeated Bartkowski’s 84-82 in the final game. Team members are John Thompson, Roger Johnson, Dan Johnson, Terry Hartje, Lee Grim and Aaron Wenger.
“Just as big a thrill as the last time,” said Jim Leen after bowling his second 300 game of his career last night.
50 YEARS AGO
Borderland’s traditional harbingers of spring, the seagulls, arrived at Ranier on St. Patrick's Day, one day earlier than their usual arrival. Mrs. H.H. Oster, Ranier, who has kept track of the seagulls’ arrival since 1950, says the lovely white and gray birds usually arrive on the 18th.
A boy was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Williams, 8 pounds, 3 ounces.
Miss Roslyn Kapilovich, a Falls High School graduate, was among the 65 students of the School of Nursing, St. Luke’s Hospital, Duluth, who participated in capping ceremonies Saturday afternoon.
Mrs. William Lessard, 900 Sixth St., was discharged from Falls Memorial Hospital and will recuperate at home. Mrs. Lessard, who teaches fifth grade at Holler School, fell in a school hallway breaking her left arm near the shoulder.

A daughter was born yesterday at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Magnus Carlson, South International Falls, weight, 7 pounds, 5 ounces.
Twin daughters were born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Vincent O’Leary, South International Falls.
Mrs. Emma Gish, 714 Ninth Ave., was admitted to Falls Memorial Hospital Sunday with pneumonia and is making a satisfactory recovery.
Bruce Howard and Richard Dier, juniors on the Falls High School hockey team, yesterday were elected co-captains for the 1952-53 season.

Relatives gathered at the home of Mrs. James Borden, 723 Fifth Ave., Friday the 13th, to help celebrate her 75th birthday. The afternoon was spent in sewing and visiting.
Miss Jean Stormo, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Stormo, left today for St. Paul where she will attend the ice follies.
Members of Brownie Troop No. 10 surprised their leader, Mrs. B.R. Babbitt, when they met in the Little Theater of the Backus school last Friday. Mrs. Babbitt, who was celebrating her birthday, was presented with a birthday cake, which was later served with ice cream. The girls had the party following their work.
George Oettinger, Border Publishing Company pressman, is confined to his home, 318 Sixth St., as a result of a bad fall in his home. He suffered multiple bruises and a cut on his head which necessitated having seven stitches.
