Tom Hodel, formerly of International Falls and now residing in Soldotna, Alaska, was recently presented the A.H. Robbins “Bowl of Hygeia” award as the 1987 Pharmacist of the Year of Alaska.

A bridal shower was held for Mrs. Randy Blake yesterday at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Hostesses were the Miss Janet Blake and Miss Karen Everett and the Mmes. Robert Pullar, Gary Nicholson, Jack Blake and John Slatinski.
The 50th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Olafson will be celebrated Sunday at an open house at the American Legion Hall in Blackduck between the hours of 2 and 5 p.m. Hosting the event are their eight children, Emerly Olafson, Mrs. Russell Nelson Sr., Mrs. Dennis Jensen and Mrs. Lloyd Carrigan, all of the Falls, David and Lyle Olafson and Mrs. Melvin Jantzen, all of Blackduck, and Mrs. Carl Kelley of St. Louis, Mo.
Kurt Eisenach, 31, of 604 12th Ave., filed this morning as a candidate for alderman-at-large in the city election.

A girl was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. John Bergvall, 6 pounds, 9 ounces.
Mr. and Mrs. Norman (Stub) Walls, South International Falls, announce the engagement of their daughter, Sharon Jean, to Robert John Misner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Misner, 1016 Eighth St.
Maple Island overwhelmed all comers in City Recreation basketball this year and won the Round Robin Wednesday. Team members are Jake Blake, Ron Peterson, John Sweeney, Stan Johnson, Tom Worth, Fred Foyt and Ed Hogvedt.
The “Road Runners” won the round robin and elimination basketball games over nine teams of ninth graders directed by Miss Mildred Tripp and Mrs. Helen Caswell. Members of the team are Julie Brunette, Valois Boettcher, Susan Wietecha, Pam Bilben and Charlynn Reuter.

Among pledges to Beta Phi Kappa, social fraternity at the University of Minnesota, Duluth branch, are Eugene Sabotta and Michael Domish of the Falls.
Mr. and Mrs. Bert Kirtland of Littlefork celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary Sunday at the Leo G. Johnson home in Littlefork.
A son was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Douglas, 607 Fourth Ave., weight, 7 pounds, 11 ounces.
Mrs. Florence Thompson has been named manager of Stevenson’s in International Falls. Mrs. Thompson makes her home in Apartment 4, Keyes building. She has four grown children.

Following the regular practice of Zion Lutheran Church choir a social and get-together was held honoring Mr. and Mrs. Al Hanson who will leave soon to make their home in Wisconsin.
Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Viger of International Falls announce the birth of a son at Laurion Maternity Home today. He will be named Leonard Alfred.
Mrs. Anna Benson, Kozy Kort Kabins, entertained the Dime-and-Knit Club at her home. Many of the members are doing Red Cross knitting. The next meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Marvin Jacobson.
Miss Mary Jane Woods of Ranier, formerly of Detroit Lakes, left this morning by bus for Washington, D.C., where she will be employed by the government.
