Falls defenseman Tony Wherley was named to the All-Area High School Hockey team by the Duluth News-Tribune and Herald. Two Falls swimmers have been named to the All-Section 7 boys’ swimming team. In the 200-yard medley relay, Noah Misner was on the first team in the backstroke, and Rob Wichner on the second team in the freestyle.
The International Falls City Council recently approved a restaurant license to David and Maria Leyendecker, who plan to open Maria’s Oriental Cuisine.

A boy was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Brown, South International Falls.
Dorothy Krause is a new nurses aide at Falls Nursing Home.
Darla Stromstad is the newest member of the Young Citizens 4-H Club.

A daughter was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Otto Maish, 8 pounds, 7 ounces.
Albert Story is a new member of the Papermaker’s Colony 4-H Club.
Harvey Veeder of the Gateway Trading Post is wearing out his slippers walking the floors these past few nights to feed three tiny black bears who have come to live at his home in Sawmill Addition. The cubs were found south of the Falls on Sunday.
Miss Carol Snyder, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R.C. Snyder, who attends the University of Minnesota, has recently been pledged to Delta Zeta, academic sorority.

Nancy Lu Scheela, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Scheela, 907 Ninth St., entertained 17 children and their mothers at her fifth birthday party Thursday afternoon. The children played games and listened to stories by Mrs. Baxter Boe, Nancy’s grandmother.
Mrs. Gerald Oettinger, 1009 Eighth St., was honored this week with a stork shower at the home of Mrs. Sterling Houglum, 711 10th Ave.
Morris Godin, Leo Mongrain, Orin Green and Lavern Fillbrandt left this morning for Minneapolis where they will be inducted into the Armed Forces.
Mr. and Mrs. Orvil Alvin Tranmel of Duluth announce the forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Charlene Grace, to Robert Otto Nyberg, son of Mr. and Mrs. Otto Nyberg, 1108 Seventh Ave.

Miss Margaret Spillett, daughter of Mrs. Jennie Spillett, left today for Washington, D.C., where she accepted a government position.
Tracy, young son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph E. Stern, 604 12th Ave., is recovering from pneumonia at Children’s Hospital, St. Paul.
Mr. and Mrs. Edward Simon of Holler are parents of a son born at the Northern Minnesota Hospital March 22.
Thomas Richard are the names chosen by Mr. and Mrs. Jess Porter for their son born today at Northern Minnesota Hospital.
