Eighth-grader Mark Grim captured the first-place trophy for discussion at the Northern Minnesota Novice Speech Division at the Northern Speech meet in Grand Rapids.

Two members of the 1986-87 Falls girls’ cage team gained postseason honors this week. Sophomore point guard Amy Erickson was named to the first All-Iron Range Conference team, while teammate and guard Stacey Burns was named to the second team.

Retiring Friday, for reasons of health, is Joe Perrault, Insulite wood room employee for almost 19 years.

Charles B. Roeder, son of Mrs. Nettie Roeder, Burbas Apartments, and a member of the local Reserve unit, enlisted in the Army on March 21 for three years.

Mr. and Mrs. Einar Johnson, Ericsburg, announce the marriage of their daughter, Bernadine, to Robert Wolfe, son of Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Wolfe, 704 Seventh St.

Mrs. Sanford (Sam) Olestad, Clark’s Colony, plans to leave this week for Billings, Mont., to join her husband. Mr. Olestad has recently accepted a position as supervisor of construction for the Aldrich Lumber Company at Billings.

Mrs. Roland Tyson was guest of honor at a pink and blue shower at the home of Mrs. Delbert Tyson.

A son was born March 25 at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Ray Shoquist, weight, 6 pounds, 13 ounces.

An International Falls mother and her three children lost all of their possessions today in a fire which gutted their ground floor apartment at 1110 1/2 Sixth St. Victims of the misfortune were Mrs. Florence Clark and children, Audrey, 16, Clinton, 10, and Chester, 6.

A daughter was born yesterday at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Francis Einarson, 1312 13th Ave., weight, 7 pounds, 10 ounces.

Pfc. Joseph DeMuth is stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, as a rifleman in Company F of the 325th airborne infantry unit.

70 YEARS AGO

A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Peterson of International Falls at the Littlefork Hospital, Thursday, March 26.

Mr. and Mrs. George Dilworth Sr. are the parents of a son born at their home in Holler yesterday. Patrick Michael are the names chosen for the child.

Miss Mary Coffin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C.W. Coffin, will leave this evening for Washington, D.C., where she has accepted a position with the government.

Mrs. Eugene Holler was guest of honor at a surprise birthday party at her home this afternoon. A 2 o’clock dinner was served with covers laid for 15 guests. Hostesses were Mmes. Dan Haponuk, Valdimir Berglin and J.L. Albertson.
