A boy was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. David McCourt.
Petty Officer Third Class Frank H. Pavek, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh H. Pavek, 148 Riverview Boulevard, has received his discharge from the service after completing three years in the U.S. Navy.
The Northland Day Activity Center Board has accepted the resignation of Mrs. Kenneth (Necia) Neisz. This is a maternity resignation.
50 YEARS AGO
Walt Scheela, the first athletic director of District 361 schools who today continues in that post, was elected last night to be honored as the 1962 Citizen of the Year at the sixth annual educators banquet on April 3.
Senior high school students Paul Schultz, Phyllis LaVallee, Lee Wagness, John Ludwig, John Carlson, Joe Tracy and Karen Johnson received superior ratings in the District 27 speech festival. Instructors are Don Carey and Henry Peters.
Burton E. Pierce, engineman third class, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley F. Pierce, 604 10th St., is serving aboard the fleet tug USS Atakspa, which is taking part in Operation Springboard off San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Lyle Selberg, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Selberg, Ninth Avenue, was named to the dean’s list for the winter quarter at Bemidji State College.

A daughter was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Henning Johnson, 406 Seventh St., weight, 6 pounds, 4 ounces.

Mrs. Fred Rasmussen, Riverside Drive, was entertained at a buffet dinner Sunday evening in celebration of her birthday anniversary at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Rasmussen.
Mrs. Gordon Cawthorne, former director of nurses at Falls Memorial Hospital, went to New York and sailed from there to join her husband in France.

Miss Evelace Sture, instructor of 12th grade English, has returned to her home at Fergus Falls. Miss Sture has been forced to miss about a month of school due to illness.
“My father-in-law is moving out, and I’m moving in,” says Albert Hansen, industrial arts instructor who put in his last day of teaching at the Falls Senior High School. Mr. Hansen is moving to Black River Falls, Wis., where he will take up farming.
The population of Brown’s Corner is increasing lately. Three Gruggel brothers have moved into the R. O’Brien home and two families into the Palas Cabins.
