First National Bank assistant cashier Maxine Dahl will retire Tuesday after 22 years with the International Falls Bank.

Holly Lindmark has been accepted into the LPN nursing program at Anoka Vocational Technical Institute for the coming 1986-87 year.

Appointment of Bryan Sorenson to the position of salaried supervisor in the Boise Cascade paper finishing department is reported by William Miller, converting superintendent.

An era ended and perhaps downtown urban renewal started Monday night as the Falls city council took action which will result in the razing of three taverns on Second Street. In an agreement which the council approved on a 5-1 vote the city will tear down and remove Mel’s and Hattie’s Bars (and other buildings including the old Snack Shop which is now the site of the Bethlehem Inn) for owner Renee Keyes Somer.

50 YEARS AGO

Mrs. David Marion, Blackstone Apartments, was honored guest at a farewell dinner party given in the North Wind dining room. Mrs. Marion and her husband, who will retire April 6 after 33 years in the immigration service, will leave in a week and a half from New York for a tour of the Scandinavian countries and the continent.

Parkway Restaurant will be under new management starting tomorrow. Hannah Bergstrom will be manager and Bernie Torgerson will be in charge of the dining room.

Severt Thompson is now convalescing at his home having been released from the Littlefork Municipal Hospital last week. He suffered a heart attack several weeks ago.

Mr. and Mrs. Luke Thramer received word from their daughter, Wanda, who is employed in Thief River, that she was hit in the mouth while attending a hockey game in Crookston. Three teeth were broken off and she was taken to the Crookston hospital where she had several stitches taken in her mouth.

60 YEARS AGO

A son was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Fisher, weight, 9 pounds.

Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Collette and children, Johnny and James Michael, 1128 1/2 Ninth Ave., will leave Saturday by car for Alaska to make their home. They plan to drive up the Alcan Highway.

Mrs. Philip Alstrom, 816 11th Ave., was guest of honor at a stork shower at the home of Mrs. Joe Ludwig, 1108 Ninth St.

Mrs. John P. LaMirande, the former Joan Raymond, of the Falls, will leave tonight for New York enroute to Athens, Greece, to join her husband.

Mrs. R.R. Rogers, 806 Eighth St., was guest of honor at a farewell party given at the home of Mrs. James Stone Friday by members of the St. Thomas Tabernacle Society.

Mrs. Raymond Beggs was guest of honor at a shower Friday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Pierre Dumais, Jameson Addition.

Private Frank Spurgeon, son of George Spurgeon of Holler, left last evening for Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., after spending a week here.

Robert Trompeter, 16, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Trompeter of Ranier, today ranked as champion patriotic essayist of the Falls High School. His claim to the title lay in the fact his composition this week won first place in the local division of the annual patriotic essay contest sponsored by the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
