Airman 1st Class Scott A. Weum, son of Clifford S. and Lois M. Weum of 1108 10th St., has graduated from Air Force basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas.

Mark Morff, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth C. Morff, Route 9, a junior majoring in industrial technology, has been given the Chancellor’s Award for academic excellence during the first semester at University of Wisconsin-Stout.

40 YEARS AGO

Patrick Donahue Jr., 25, graduated March 17 from Bemidji State College with a bachelor of science degree. Patrick is a 1964 graduate of Falls High School.

Retiring today after nearly 46 years of service with Boise Cascade and Mando is John A. Klow, kraft mill supervisor.

50 YEARS AGO

A son was born today at La Verendrye Hospital, Fort Frances, to Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Larson, Riverside Trailer Court, 6 pounds, 1 ounce.

Donald Barstad of Littlefork, student at the St. Paul campus of the University of Minnesota, is spending a few days with his parents during quarter breaks.

Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Wickstrom and their eight children, whose home on Old Highway 11 was devastated by fire on Feb. 7, have bought a home at 503 Eighth St., where they now live. The children enjoy living in town, their father said, with the exception of one of the boys who would still like to live on the farm.

Charles Erickson, Island View Route, was awarded a life membership in the Moose Club Thursday evening at the annual party.

A son was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Polkinghorne, 720 Eighth St., weight, 8 pounds, 5 ounces.

Mrs. Raymond Rasmussen of Forsythe was surprised at a birthday celebration Saturday evening when 34 relatives called at her home.

Tom Bergstedt, assistant freshman basketball coach at the University of Minnesota, was hired as head basketball coach at Falls High School, superintendent Leo H. Dominick announced today.

A son was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Terry, 1323 Third Ave., weight, 7 pounds, 6 ounces. Name chosen, Ryan John.

70 YEARS AGO

Mrs. Albert Williams was guest of honor when the Funsters Club met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gregg Selsaas, 505 Sixth St., Saturday evening. The occasion was her birthday.

Thirty friends and neighbors helped Mrs. Martin Roatch celebrate her birthday Thursday at her home in Jameson Addition. Members of the Zion Lutheran Ladies Aid were present early in the afternoon and later friends from the neighborhood.

Jack Hettinger, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Hettinger, entertained friends at a dinner last evening honoring Kenneth and Carroll Rogers who will leave here soon.

Miss Eileen Holm, 1125 Seventh Ave., was guest of honor at a birthday party Saturday evening at her home. Twenty boys and girls of this city and Fort Frances enjoyed an evening of games and dancing. At midnight the guests “raided the ice-box.” Miss Holm received many gifts for her 16th anniversary.
