Private First Class Gary W. Vigoren, 22, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy T. Vigoren, recently received the Army Commendation Medal while serving with the 196th Infantry Brigade in Vietnam.
Michelle Beer, a senior at Falls High School, was awarded a silver medal in the state high school speech meet held Saturday at St. Paul Sibley High School.
Paul Aili, 32, arrived here April 13 to begin duties as travel agent for the International Travel Service, located at Fourth Avenue and Second Street.

“Hospitality Days” at the Phillips 66 West End station, Fifth Street and Eleventh Avenue, Friday and Saturday will kick off the beginning of a new venture for Don Sullivan, who is the new dealer at that station.
Marine Pfc. Francis G. Graves Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Francis R. Graves of 1505 First St., International Falls, is serving aboard the heavy cruiser USS Helena, a unit of the first fleet scheduled to visit the Seattle World’s Fair.

A boy was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Olson, 8 pounds, 9 1/2 ounces.

Some 200 parents and friends attended the piano recital by students of Miss Patricia Lynch Sunday afternoon in Community Auditorium. Soloists were Phillip Lowey, Jimmy Thomas, Kayla Barker, Narese Dahl, Judy Peggar, Jerome Johnson, Donna Carlson and Harriet Mether.
William Forsythe, South International Falls, is convalescing at St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth. His arm was crushed in a paper machine accident several weeks ago and he was moved from Falls Memorial to Duluth for special treatment.
Mrs. Larry Palm, Pozniak Cabins, has joined the staff of the immigration and naturalization office at International Bridge today. Her position is clerk-stenographer.
Mrs. Bernard Piekarski, 1109 13th Ave., was guest of honor at a stork shower at the home of Mrs. Clem Lepper, 1111 13th Ave. Assisting hostesses were Mrs. Paul Prozinski and Mrs. Olaf Elo.

Ralph E. Stern, immigrant inspector for the U.S. Immigration service at Ranier, will be transferred May 1 to Fargo, N.D., where he is to have charge of a new office.
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph A. Jones Jr., Blackstone Apartments, announce the birth of a daughter April 29 at the Northern Minnesota Hospital. She will be named Michele Elizabeth.
Lucien W. Marsh has joined the Mando research laboratory staff.
A 40-year career as a barber ended today for George Hansen, proprietor of the Rex Hotel Barber Shop. Mr. Hansen announced this morning that he has sold the shop to J.C. Leigh of Detroit Lakes and will retire to his farm on the Big Fork River to fish and raise stock and chickens.
