Julie Cowlishaw and Mary Jo Watkins were among the 100 students who were acknowledged for their academic excellence during the seventh annual Spring Honors Convocation at Bemidji State University.
Thomas Froehlich, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Froehlich, has been named to the Willmar Area Vocational-Technical Institute director’s list for the winter quarter of 1986-87.

Individual winners in the National Bowling League with high average and high individual series were Doris Reeve, Pat Aydt and Bea Brown.
About 130 fellow teachers and friends honored J.C. Kohlhase, principal at Alexander Baker School, at a retirement dinner in the Gold Room of the Rex Hotel. Russell Johnson, elementary supervisor, was master of ceremonies.
The Coca Cola bowling team won the second half of the Smokey Bear Bowling League. Team members are Ben Niemi, Ralph Awe, Chet Olson, Jim West, Russ Johnson and Marty Narbo.

A girl was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Sam Stromstad, 7 pounds, 1 1/4 ounces.
Mrs. Frank Youso Jr. was guest of honor at a stork shower at the Frank Youso Sr. home. She was assisted in opening her gifts by Miss Francie Youso.
Mrs. Clara Reistad and Rosella Knutson, the Falls, returned from Seattle World’s Fair Friday after a three-week visit. While there they visited with Mrs. Caroline Narveson.
Miss Eileen Lennon and Miss Myrtle Dewester, Faribault, are visiting their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Dewester at Island View Route. The women, both of whom are psychiatric aides at Faribault State school and hospital, reported seeing 44 deer and another large herd enroute to the Falls.

Mrs. Joe Ludwig, 1108 Ninth St., was guest of honor at a stork shower at the home of Mrs. Ed Dalton, 516 Sixth St.
International Falls re-entered the liquor business today with the opening of an off-sale package store at 309 Third Ave., in the Rex Hotel building. Peter M. Howard, clerk in charge, reported business “good” almost as soon as he opened the doors of the new store at 8 a.m.
Miss Lois Holler and Pfc. Charles Thompson exchanged nuptial vows this afternoon in St. Thomas Catholic rectory.
A daughter was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Piekarski, 1107 13th Ave., weight, 7 pounds. Name chosen, Linda Kay.

William Ficke is home on a 15-day furlough from Army duty. Bill is stationed at Camp Cook, Calif., with the reconnaissance corps.
The Insulite girls bowling team had a cocktail party at Dorothy Basterash’s apartment, Forest Inn. This was a prelude to the banquet held at the Dutch Room the same evening.
Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Sheehy and son, Terry, left for Grand Marais to make their home. Mr. Sheehy is with the U.S. Immigration Border Patrol.
A son was born today (Mothers’ Day) at the Laurion Maternity Home to Mr. and Mrs. Ross Trott (Norma Monrean). Donald Ross are the names chosen for the child.
