Sigurd and Lillian Sjoblom will be honored at an open house on June 6 from 1 to 5 p.m. on the occasion of their 45th wedding anniversary at South Falls Community Hall.

Former Falls resident Meg Ojala was among 19 Minnesota artists recently awarded grants from the Bush Foundation and Film in the Cities. Ojala is the daughter of Arthur and Loretta Ojala.

A son was born today at La Verendrye Hospital, Fort Frances, to Mr. and Mrs. Leland Krzoska, Andrew Seth.

Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Williams of Loman Route will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Northome Rest Home where Mr. Williams resides.

Don C. Carey, Falls High School speech and drama coach, was presented a trophy by the senior speech and drama students at the annual awards banquet. In appreciation for his guidance, the trophy is inscribed “We came to you with desire and you made us champions.”

50 YEARS AGO

Mr. and Mrs. Norm Rusch and employees of Woolworth’s honored Miss Virginia Fairchild, cashier and bookkeeper of the store, at a 7:30 o’clock dinner to note her 25 years of service to the company.

Wednesday Afternoon League bowlers who emerged champions this season were Edith Byman, Dorothy Hoppe, Beulah Hill, Marion Christenson and Alma Bigler.

A boy was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. George Glover, 7 pounds, 11 1/2 ounces.

A girl was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. William Long, 5 pounds, 11 ounces.

60 YEARS AGO

A daughter was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Norbert Perrault, Ranier, weight, 6 pounds, 13 ounces.

Frank Murphy, retired camp cook and restaurant operator, is celebrating his 89th birthday anniversary today but his friends say he still looks like a “youngster” of 65. He will be honored at a birthday supper tonight at Falls Rest Home where he has resided since 1946.

A daughter was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Cleve Costley, South International Falls, weight, 6 pounds, 4 ounces.

Airman James R. St. Peter, 18, son of C.J. St. Peter, Keyes Arcade, has completed his basic airman indoctrination course at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

70 YEARS AGO

Twenty friends gathered at the Alfred Stone home in Clark’s Colony Sunday afternoon honoring Arnold Stone who will leave for service in the army Wednesday. Mrs. Stone served a buffet supper at 5 o’clock.

Pvt. Grover Green of the 77th Evacuation Hospital, Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., arrived this morning to spend a 10-day furlough here. He is visiting his father, F.B. Green, and other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Irvin Blumer, Jameson Addition, who will leave shortly with her son and daughter for Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, to join Mr. Blumer, was guest of honor at a party at the home of her mother, Mrs. Ernest Simpson.

Miss Dorothy Jackson of International Falls has joined the nursing staff at the Littlefork Hospital.
