Carrie Leseman was presented with the all-region athlete award for basketball by Sheila Perkins, women’s athletic director, at the Rainy River Community College awards program.

Ken Walls, son of Norma Halverson of South International Falls, has accepted employment at Osterloh Company (Chrysler) in Pine River. Walls graduated from Falls High School in 1970 and has just completed the automotive technician program at the Wadena Area Vocational-Technical Institute.

Miss Ivy Church today joined the staff of The Daily Journal for the summer months as a local reporter and the staff’s Girl Friday.

Greg M. Anderson, 16, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ellsworth L. Anderson, 1406 Home Lane, has been selected as official delegate to represent School District 361 and the William Robideau Post 66 of the American Legion at the 24th annual Legion Boys State for 1972. Named as alternate delegate was Harry Readman, 17, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Readman of 1124 Eighth St.

James Kellner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter T. Kellner, 1204 Second Ave. E., will be graduated from Saint Thomas Academy, Saint Paul, on May 26.

John Gunderson, graduating senior at Lutheran Theological Seminary in St. Paul, has accepted the call to be the new assistant pastor at Zion Lutheran Church.

Marriage vows were recently exchanged by Irene A. Westerberg of Ray and Andrew J. Hauner Jr. at St Columban Church.

Mr. and Mrs. Prosper Davidson, 435 Colonization Road W., Fort Frances, announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Isabelle Marie, to James Nilson, Minneapolis.

A girl was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Barber, Littlefork, 7 pounds, 6 ounces.

A daughter was born yesterday at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Mainville, weight, 5 pounds, 15 ounces. Name chosen, Joanne Marie.

A son was born May 20 at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Paschka, 936 Third St., weight, 8 pounds, 13 ounces. Name chosen, Michael Schoen. Paschka is Falls High School athletic coach.

A daughter was born yesterday at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. David Engelking, weight, 8 pounds.

70 YEARS AGO

Miss Jean Murray, in charge of the dry goods department, has been at the J.C. Penney store in International Falls for 17 years. She joined the Penney organization in 1925 when they first opened their doors.

Clarence Larson, Milt Mitchell and Clem Kusnierek made their annual spring fishing trip to Kettle Falls and needless to say they came back with walleye pike that would make a Mille Lacs lake resort owner kiss his mother-in-law.

We apologize to our many friends and customers who were disappointed because we were out of minnows for the past two days ... BUT, we’re happy to say we now have 500 dozen of those good, tough shiners like we had opening day and only 20 cents per dozen. George’s Minnows. Half-mile beyond Ranier on Rainy Lake.
