Jennefer Geddes, a senior at Hamline University, was accorded several honors at the annual Hamline Honors Day convocation recently. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roger C. Geddes of Route 8.

Among the 417 graduates receiving bachelor’s degrees at the recent commencement exercises at Concordia College, Moorhead, were Karla Sue Kellner and Brad Dean Bergstrom.

40 YEARS AGO

A son was born yesterday at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Brokaw, Theodore Robert Ricard, 8 pounds, 1 ounce.

Mrs. and Mrs. John Frahm will be honored at an open house in their new home at 501 Ninth St. from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday. The Frahms moved to the Falls from Ray last week.

Mr. and Mrs. Harold Barber will retire this year after together completing 85 years in the field of education — 75 of those years in Koochiching County. Both of the Barbers grew up in Big Falls; both started their teaching careers in one-room rural schools in the county.

Ronald B. Barby, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Barby, Island View Route, entered the U.S. Army on May 16 for three years.

Jerry Graham won the 100-yard dash during the District 27 track meet held on a sloppy track at Aurora Tuesday to help the Broncos retain the title for the sixth year.

Mr. and Mrs. A.S. Oliver plan to leave Thursday for the first leg of a trip that will take them to Aberdeen, Scotland.

Second Lieut. Marlin W. Olson has been awarded his United States Air Force navigation wings after completing navigator training at Harlingen Air Force Base.

Janet Pavek was elected honored queen for the ensuing year at the meeting of Bethel 14, International Order of Job’s Daughters. June Williams, retiring queen, presided.

Rita and Anita Misner, both daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Misner, Carson Lupie Addition, celebrated their birthday anniversaries with separate parties. Rita was 14 and Anita turned 12.

A son was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Harlan Swenson, Banen Apartments, weight, 7 pounds, 2 ounces. Name chosen, Eugene Quentien.

Cpl. Harold Hassing is spending a furlough at the home of his parents, South International Falls. He is stationed at Camp Rucker, Ala.

70 YEARS AGO

Mr. and Mrs. Carl Martin, 306 1/2 Eighth St., are parents of a son born at the Littlefork Hospital today. Carlton Wayne are the names chosen for the boy. Mrs. Martin was the former Lillian Hafdahl.

Mr. and Mrs. Mervin Kjellgren, Tenth Street, announce the birth of a daughter today at the Littlefork Hospital. It is their second child, the first being 3-year-old Sharon Ann.

Sports Stadium, the new Falls High School athletic center, was dedicated to the youth of this community at impressive exercises which attracted approximately 1,500 local citizens to the edifice Friday evening.

Oliver P. Ulrich, 74, a resident of International Falls since 1907, died this evening following a prolonged illness. A cook by training, he was employed for several years at the Koochiching Hotel. Prior to 1916 he operated his own restaurant here for several years.
