A $1,100 Boise Cascade college scholarship earned by the safe-working employees of Minnesota, Dakota and Western Railway, was awarded this week to Mary Jane Thomson, Falls High School senior who plans a career in nursing.
Miss Mary Margaret Phair, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Harold Phair, 408 Sixth St., graduated with honors from Fontbonne College, St. Louis, Mo., in ceremonies held May 21 at the Kiel Opera House in St. Louis.
Janet Ficke, 1100 Eighth Ave., is among the 131 seniors being awarded baccalaureate degrees during commencement ceremonies at the College of Saint Benedict May 27.

Mrs. Duane Bangen was honored guest at a pink and blue shower given in the home of Mrs. Ted Pozniak.
Falls High School graduate, Miss Janet Nyberg, was listed among those receiving special honors at the annual honors convocation at Moorhead State College recently.
Rodne Julien, formerly of the Falls, received his first diploma in a series of three, qualifying him for membership in the National Society of Interior Decorators.

Art Saari, World War II veteran, began his duties earlier this week as manager of the Ranier Municipal Liquor Store.
Mr. and Mrs. Edward Brenning, Loman, and their son, Cpl. Willard Brenning, were dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Christensen, 1219 First Ave. W. Cpl. Brenning returned recently after 10 months service with the armored forces in Korea.
A daughter was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Ross Pelland, South International Falls, weight, 8 pounds, 2 ounces. Name chosen, Wendy Yvonne.
Sherelle Sandstrom, 8, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H.E. Sandstrom, Anderson Furniture building, underwent an emergency appendectomy Saturday night at Falls Memorial Hospital.

Pvt. Bill Johnson, who formerly was stationed at Fort Lewis, Wash., is safe in Australia according to a cablegram received by his mother, Mrs. Clara A. Johnson, 325 Fifth Ave. Mrs. Johnson had not heard from her son for a month.
Baskets of flowers decorated Zion Lutheran Church parlors for a bridal shower for Miss Lois Wenberg who will be a June bride.
Sgt. Eli Jerome, Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., got his furlough just in time to enjoy fishing on Rainy Lake. He arrived Monday to spend this week with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roger Jerome, Eleventh Avenue.
Miss Mildred Marklund, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hjalmer Marklund of Littlefork, left for Ely where she will be manager of the Montgomery Ward store. Since graduating from the local high school four years ago, Miss Marklund has been employed at the Montgomery Ward store in International Falls.
